Scheffler Strolls To 2nd Masters Win, But Other Majors? Lakers, Warriors, Heat & 76ers Top NBA Play-In Headlines. Who’ll Win NHL East Wild Card Spot? UFC’s Holloway Dramatic KO! Oh, And O.J.!

Smack dab in the middle of April as it’s Tax Day, but you won’t have to worry about yours truly adding any of that, surcharges, etc. as I’ve got plenty of sports chatter to get into as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(4:03) Another mea culpa from yours truly as I was unable to produce a podcast for you on Thursday due to unforeseen circumstances. I do sincerely apologize, and as of right now, all looks fine for a pod come this Thursday.

(5:13) There wasn’t a lot of drama over the latter part of the Masters in Augusta yesterday where Scottie Scheffler won his second green jacket in three years. The #1 player in the world has gotten off to a tremendous start this year, but can he carry this into the final three major tournaments over the next few months? I’ll get into the performances of other golfers at the top of the leaderboard (Collin Morikawa, Ludwig Aberg, Bryson Dechambeau, in particular) Also, what happened to Tiger Woods as he had one of the worst ever majors in his illustrious career. How about Rory McIlroy as he’s looking for his first major win in ten years?

(21:57) It was a wild final week in the Association as OKC got the #1 seed in the West after Denver lost a brutal penultimate game vs. San Antonio. The Knicks crept up to get the #2 seed in the East, where the Bucks fall to three. Will Milwaukee get their act together, with or without Giannis Antetokounmpo in the lineup? The Sixers have been red hot heading into the play-in tournament where they’ll host the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. I’ll detail the top headlines heading into the next few days (ex. West play-in better than East. Can Sixers go on a run? What bout Miami who did it last year in this spot?) Will the Lakers win to set up a rematch of last year’s Western Finals vs. Denver? Can Golden State make it in as an eighth seed?

(40:38) We’re just days away from the NHL season concluding. The only intrigue is who’ll end up with the most points in the NHL when it’s all said and done (Carolina or NY Rangers)? What about the bitter fight for the last wild card spot in the East? Four teams are separated by one point! Which of them will qualify? (Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington or Pittsburgh) Is it possible for the Arizona Coyotes to relocate to Salt Lake City starting next year? That’s been the hot topic as of late where the ‘Yotes could trek to Utah before the 2024-25 season.

(52:58) Today (April 15th) is Jackie Robinson Day, which was his first day in the Major Leagues 77 years ago today. I’ll chime in on that and bring you up to date on what’s happening as we’re two and a half weeks in the marathon of the MLB.

(59:02) The main bout in UFC 300 couldn’t have ended any more dramatic with Max Holloway knocking out Justin Gaethje with seconds left in the final round. Is it the best ending in the history of the sport?

(1:04:16) I’ll spend a few minutes on the death of O.J. Simpson. Do I even need to get into what he and his name means, not only in the sports world, but pop culture, news and controversy surrounding the former NFL great?

NBA’s 200 Point All-Star Debacle! Islanders Choke In Outdoor Game Loss To Rangers. Purdue Goes Down. UCONN: Team To Beat. Alonso Wants Mets, But Vice Versa? Matsuyama’s 62 Wins Wacky Genesis

Another holiday Monday presents a wild hour of sports talk as we transition away from the NFL with all of the latest happenings in the sports universe as I’ll unpack the following:

(3:00) It was a rough weekend for the NBA as they had to deal with a repeat slam dunk champion (Mac McClung) who’s in the G-League! Plus, an All-Star Game that had one team score over 200 POINTS as the East beat the West. What can they do to fix it? Is it too late to do so? Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has been relieved of his duties. Was it fair? Then you have the finalists for the Naismith Hall of Fame which includes Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups. Why I think both wouldn’t be enshrined in Springfield if it was up to me? The Association is still on a respite as the schedule will pick up on Thursday.

(22:50) You had another stunner in college basketball as #2 Purdue loses to Ohio State, with an interim coach, no less. Does this hurt them for a #1 come tournament time? #1 UCONN is surely looking like a team that’s going to defend their title as they destroyed #4 Marquette in historic fashion. How about Rick Pitino, the head coach of St. John’s? They lost to Seton Hall last night and are now 6-9 in the conference. He had plenty of choice words for his team, calling it a disappointing year, stating how unathletic they are, lacking toughness, going in on his squad as they try to fight for a spot in the tournament. Caitlin Clark sets the women’s record all time for scoring in the sport, eclipsing Kelsey Plum in the process. And sad news as former Maryland coach, Lefty Driesell passed away at age 92.

(30:45) The NHL had a huge weekend with two outdoor games in the same venue. I’ll unwrap the Flyers-Devils meeting on Saturday night, with the second game being a nail biter where the Islanders blew a golden opportunity to beat their crosstown rival Rangers, 6-5 in OT. I was a witness to the latter game. How much that loss stings even a day later may come as a surprise? Also, the nerve of the Ranger fan, sounding like they’ve won 6 or 7 Stanley Cups as I had to deal with them for three plus hours yesterday. Don’t look now, but the Panthers have overtaken the Bruins in the Atlantic Division for the first time since the end of the 2021-22 season. I’ll see what else is happening in the other divisions and keep you up to speed on the latest.

(46:26) With position players reporting throughout the MLB, I have to throw in my two cents regarding Mets 1B, Pete Alonso and his desire to be a lifelong Met. I call out both the VP of baseball ops, David Stearns and of course, the owner, Steve Cohen to put his money where his mouth is as he’s stated in the past that he wants to operate his team like the Braves & Dodgers, to name a couple. There were two low level signings, (Whit Merrifield to Phillies and Liam Hendricks to the Red Sox) as spring training is in full swing.

(54:40) There was a golf tournament over the weekend in LA at the Genesis Invitational. It wasn’t a major, but you had some interesting developments regarding a couple of players. Tiger Woods had to withdraw with an illness after two rounds. Is this the last of Tiger being a dominant fixture on the course? You also had Jordan Spieth disqualified due to an erroneous scorecard. But your winner was Hideki Matsuyama who shot a 62 in the final round to win the tournament as we’re still six or seven weeks from Augusta.

(57:41) The Super Bowl of Racing had to be postponed due to inclement weather at the Daytona 500. They’ll race at 4pm today/Monday. Does this hurt the biggest racing event of the year?

(58:42) UFC had a surprise on Saturday night as Ilia Topuria stunned Alexander Volkanovski in a knockout that I’m sure quite a few didn’t expect. Is a rematch in order at some point in the not too distant future?

NBA 2nd Half: A Wide Open West & Top Heavy East. Leafs Cup Pressure With Big Trade. Bieniemy's Lateral Move To DC A Plus? Machado Pulling An Aaron Judge? Tiger's Return! A Historic Daytona 500

It may be a holiday today, but there are no days off when it comes to talking sports. You're in the right place to get your fill on passionate, energetic and opinionated sports talk as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(3:15) After a brief mention of another anniversary/milestone for the podcast come next week, the NBA just completed its All-Star Weekend, we can look ahead to the 'second half' and what to expect. I forecast it simply this way. The West is a bit more wide open. We're uncertain about the Nuggets, Grizzlies and Kings proving themselves in a big spot. Whereas the Suns, Clippers and possibly the Warriors could make that push to threaten those at the top of the conference. Then there are the Lakers on the outside looking in at the moment. LeBron James has stressed that these are the "most important games in the regular season" of his career. Is that a stretch? As for the East, it's the Celtics, Bucks, maybe the Sixers and everyone else. We'll have to wait a few more days for the season to resume, but the rigors of the Association will march on as we monitor how this'll unfold until we get to mid-April.

(25:08) As for what's happening in college basketball, there have been a couple of losses with top 10 teams (i.e. Tennessee and Purdue). #5 Kansas exacts revenge on #9 Baylor with a win at Allen Fieldhouse. This topsy-turvy, unpredictable college year will be the theme, I think, over the next seven weeks, as it's going to be wild and crazy as we get closer to the Madness in March.

(28:29) On the ice, the Maple Leafs have made a substantial trade to put them in position, as per GM Kyle Dubas stated, to get to a Stanley Cup. Is that too much pressure to put on a team that hasn't gotten out of the first round of the playoffs in over 20 years? And won a Cup in 56 years? Let's see if Ryan O'Reilly could be the guy to lead them to a promised land. I'll touch on the outdoor game in Carolina where the Hurricanes beat the Capitals, minus Alex Ovechkin. The Rangers keeping pace in the division, despite having their seven game winning streak snapped in Calgary. I can't forget the Pacific Division as it's a three team race (i.e. Golden Knights, Kings and Kraken) for first place as those teams are separated by two points at the moment.

(38:27) Former Chiefs offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy leaves the shadow of Andy Reid to take the same position in Washington with the Commanders. Why I feel this is not a good move, but a GREAT one for him and his future. Although he's not bringing Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce with him. Is anyone interested in the XFL? I didn't watch a second over the weekend as they've re-opened for business after bottoming out after COVID in 2020. Will it gain any traction at all?

(44:04) I remember the life of former MLB catcher and legendary broadcaster, Tim McCarver, who passed away last week at the age of 81. Padres 3B Manny Machado has come into spring training declaring that he will opt-out of his current contract at the end of 2023. Is he taking a page out of Aaron Judge's stance from last year? Was this presumptuous on his part? You'll be surprised of my take as position players start to trickle in to training camp.

(49:59) Tiger Woods made his return to golf for the first time in seven months. It came with mixed reviews as he made the cut, performed well on Thursday and Saturday, but Friday and Sunday wasn't as favorable for him. The bigger story was Jon Rahm, who became the #1 player in the world with his win over Max Homa at the Genesis Invitational out in Los Angeles.

(52:51) To conclude, the Super Bowl of Racing took place yesterday as the Daytona 500 ended in historic fashion. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was your winner for the first time as it took double overtime, 212 laps and 530 miles in the longest race ever of the 65th edition down in Florida.

Padres Win Soto Sweepstakes, Yanks Wheeling, Dodgers Not Dealing Highlight Deadline. NFL vs. NFLPA: League Appeals Watson's Suspension. Tiger Turns Down $800M? Mickelson Leads Lawsuit Against PGA

The sports stove has a few things percolating as we're into a new month. I'll serve up a high dosage of what you need as the latest episode has arrived. On deck:

(4:30) Coming off of an epic MLB trade deadline, I'll dissect the blockbuster trade by San Diego bringing in Juan Soto to their ballclub. Could the Padres possibly have three players worth over a BILLION dollars in contracts at the same time? What about the Yankees and how they've added to their roster? Also, what could plague them come October? The Dodgers weren't big time players in making transactions to solidify a couple of key spots on their team. I'll break down what some of the other playoff contenders have done, go through both leagues wild card scenarios, a division battle set this weekend between the Braves & Mets. A tribute to a broadcasting legend, Vin Scully. And thoughts on the last two episodes of The Captain, the ESPN documentary on Derek Jeter, that you may find intriguing.

(39:47) Deshaun Watson's suspension has finally come down to where an arbiter handed down six games for him to sit out at the start of the 2022 season. Thing is, the NFL has appealed that the suspension should be harsher. The Players Association was hoping that the league would've stood pat. Will this be a fight to the bitter end? How much will Watson get when it's all said and done? The Miami Dolphins were docked a first round draft pick next year, fined and their owner, Stephen Ross, was suspended for tampering violations against Tom Brady and former Saints coach, Sean Payton. Was this penalty warranted?

(48:15) In an interview this week, Greg Norman shouted out Tiger Woods as he allegedly passed up $700-$800 million from the LIV Golf Tour. Is Tiger in the wrong for not jumping to where the money is? Speaking of LIV, Phil Mickelson, among nine other golfers. are filing an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA so they can play in the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs. How will the PGA handle this now and moving forward?

A New Era Of The Pod Begins With The 2022 MLB Preview. Will Tiger Prowl At Augusta? A Masters Preview. Kansas's Historic Comeback To A Title! NFL OT Rule For Playoffs & Signings

The time has arrived! A double dose of yours truly moving forward as I entertain and inform the masses on all that's going on in sports! On deck:

(3:10) The 2022 baseball season is here! I'll go through all of the divisions, share my over/under selections, a preview of my beloved Mets and who'll make it to the World Series? A surprising prediction that you won't want to miss as we're about to raise the curtain on another year of hardball.

(40:49) Tiger Woods is the top story as The Masters commences today. Does he have a shot to be at or near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday? I'll preview all of what may take shape in Augusta and my prediction as to who will win the first major golf tournament of 2022.

(49:30) I'll recap what was a thrilling NCAA Tournament and Championship Game as the Kansas Jayhawks win in historic fashion. Trailing by 15 points to upend the North Carolina Tar Heels to secure the second title for coach, Bill Self. Should Carolina fans be happy with how the tournament played out? Or bitter because they fell a basket short?

(53:15) I'll touch on some NFL news including the new overtime rule in the postseason, how the Rams payroll is stretched thin with another big signing and Stefon Diggs gets extended in Buffalo as the NFL Draft is three weeks away.

(58:29) And I'll introduce a new social media platform as another avenue for you to follow that'll tie into the podcast for everyone to enjoy.

Roll Tide! College Football Playoff Storylines. Loaded AFC, Week 12 Winners & Losers. MLB Armageddon Has Begun. Suns Peak at 18! Tiger's Return?

December is off to a tremendous sports start and here to share my thoughts, opinions and analysis of it all as Episode #227 is full of passion and fire that you won't hear anywhere else. On deck:

(5:40) The end of a very intriguing college football regular season came to a close where it's a movie that we've seen plenty over the years. The Alabama Crimson Tide are riding high from their dismantling of the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. What does this victory mean for this 'Bama team? What about the psyche of Georgia? I'll recap this game, Oklahoma State's brutal loss to Baylor, Michigan's thrashing of Iowa and Cincinnati keeping their unbeaten season alive as I'll showcase each of the Final Four teams storylines as we sit and wait for the college football playoff on New Year's Eve. Lastly, I'll chime in on some of the coaching changes that took place (i.e. USC, LSU & Oklahoma) and was it right for Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly to leave their teams hanging for greener pastures?

(37:44) Week 13 in the NFL was, ehhhh! You had a couple of fantastic finishes in Detroit and Pittsburgh, but not a lot of shocks or surprises as I discuss my winners (Chargers & Lions) and losers (49ers & Broncos) of the week. I'll preview how important of a Monday night game it is for the Buffalo Bills as they face off vs. New England. I'll share my thoughts on a jam packed AFC as 12 teams are still alive in the playoff race. I'll get into how rabid yours truly gets when watching a Ravens-Steelers game and how that game came down to the wire. Of course, I'll look ahead into Week 14 as there are some good matchups on the schedule as we inch closer to the conclusion of the regular season.

(1:08:16) The MLB offseason has been put on ice as the collective bargaining agreement has expired. What now? What is the issue between the players and owners? Are the owners hypocrites for doling out huge deals to date, when they're trying to cut costs? I'll get into it all, even come up with a possible timeframe for when this should be done if they plan on getting next season started on time AND what does this mean for players like Freddie Freeman, Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Kris Bryant who haven't signed as of yet?

(1:19:25) The Phoenix Suns were shining bright as they were able to pull off an 18 game winning streak. No NBA Finals hangover for Chris Paul & company. Can they continue to put the pressure and threaten the Warriors and get back to another Finals appearance? And what happened to the Oklahoma City Thunder? They lost by how many to a Ja Morant-less Memphis Grizzlies team? You know I've got a couple of things to say about this. There been a couple of key injuries (i.e. Damian Lillard & Bam Adebayo) to the Blazers and Heat. Also, have the Knicks started to bottom out after a 5-1 start?

(1:25:53) There's a new #1 in college basketball as Duke loses to Ohio State last week, so the Purdue Boilermakers step up to the top spot in a pretty topsy turvy start to the college basketball season.

(1:27:40) A couple of coaches have walked the plank in the NHL in Vancouver & Philadelphia. (i.e. Travis Green & Alain Vigneault) and the Islander losing streak (11) has reached new lows. Is it too late for them to dig out of this crater that they've caused?

(1:30:01) Tiger Woods was in the news as he had a press conference last week to discuss his recovery, how grateful he is and when can we see him back on the golf course?

(1:33:32) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Third Year Anniversary Podcast On Kyrie's NBA Logo Idea. Baylor Loss: Blessing Or Curse? Who's Watching The NHL? Tiger's Recovery & Future. MLB Exhibition Is Here. NFL's Wilson & Watson Saga

It’s a celebratory mood as it’s a new month, spring is drawing near and three years are in the books for The JAYREELZ Podcast as Episode 181 will be one to remember. On deck:

(4:54) Today marks the third anniversary of the podcast as I share some thoughts about it’s beginning, how it’s evolved, where it’s going and thanking most of all, you, the listener as we kickstart year number four!

(11:20) The NBA is about to head into the All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, but not without covering a few topics such as: Kyrie’s idea about what the new NBA logo should be. The Raptors dealing with COVID. Victor Oladipo’s market and future contract? Teams that are trending north in a competitive East. Same for the West. Will I watch the All-Star festivities come Sunday night?

(30:03) Baylor suffers its first loss of the college basketball season. Is this a blessing or a curse? What about Gonzaga as the last undefeated team in the nation? Is there a loss in their future? Plus, the rest of the college ball landscape as we’re getting closer to March Madness.

(38:38) With a condensed schedule featuring a ton of familiarity, has the NHL become tired with what seems to be the same matchups night after night? Is anyone watching? Why the NHL needs an Original Six team in the Finals for anyone to care? Also, the Artemi Panarin situation with the Rangers is one to keep an eye on moving forward!

(53:01) Tiger Woods is on the mend after a horrific car accident left the golf legend with severe leg injuries. What does his recovery look like? And will he make a return to the game at some point down the road?

(58:52) The MLB exhibition season has begun as there isn’t much to discuss, but there are some storylines that I’ll shed light on Albert Pujols retiring after this year? Miguel Cabrera’s quest for 500 HR’s & 3,000 hits. Is there anyone in the league now that can reach those milestones in the future? Shohei Ohtani flashing that power right arm. Domingo German’s mea culpa and quest to get back in the Yankees’ good graces.

(1:07:05) The ongoing saga of rumors surrounding Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson and if they’ll be moved this offseason. I have quite a bit to say about both guys that you won’t want to miss.

(1:12:17) And of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Yankees Cruising But Is More Help On The Way? Mets: A Destination For Wheeler? OBJ's Recent Comments. Lowry Wins Open. What's Next For Pacquiao?

Episode 81 will keep you cool as you beat the summer heat of the past weekend. Here's what's on the docket:

The Yankees are in cruise control to a division title. One large question looms. Where will GM Brian Cashman procure reinforcements for his starting pitching?

The Mets should become sellers this week. Despite him being on the IL, I have a destination for P Zack Wheeler.

I'll take a look at the latest Wild Card races in the AL/NL.

Odell Beckham Jr. is back in the news. I have a few hot takes on what he said in the recent GQ article about his former team.

I'll recap the not so thrilling Open Championship as Shane Lowry was victorious in his homeland of Ireland.

What's next for Manny Pacquiao after his defeat of former undefeated welterweight, Keith Thurman on Saturday night.

Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Tiger's Redemption, Isles/CBJ Domination, Nets/ORL Surprises, Yankees Panic Button? Mets Lose Series Win in ATL

April continues to sizzle as there is much to cover in the sports world on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The unthinkable has happened! Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods has made it back to golf’s mountaintop with a cool, calm and collected final round to win his fifth green jacket at The Masters and his 15th major tournament overall. I’ll detail Tiger’s historic Sunday, what this means moving forward and is there another major title on the horizon in 2019? The New York Islanders are one win away from sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins out of the playoffs. I’ll recap how effective and dominant they’ve been against their division rivals and can they break out the brooms? Or will it go back to the Island for a Game 5? Speaking of sweeps, who would’ve thought the Tampa Bay Lightning would be one game away from being sent home after their 62 win/128 point regular season? I’ll discuss that and the rest of what’s going on in the NHL as we get deeper into round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. How about the Brooklyn Nets? They went into Philadelphia and stole Game 1, with Game 2 looming this evening. Do they have a shot to win this series? Or was that just a fluke? You’ll get my take on their chances, the Orlando Magic making a statement in Game 1 vs. Toronto,  the Celtics ugly but effective win and the rest of the opening playoff weekend in the NBA. Is it time to panic in the Bronx if you’re the Yankees? They’re sure underachieving, but the injuries continue to mount, especially with their top players. I’ll review the week that was and what lies ahead for the Bombers as the defending champion Red Sox come to town this week. Also, the Mets started off with a bang in Atlanta only to cool off by losing the back two games of their four game series to the Braves. Now it’s onto Philadelphia as they’ll face Bryce Harper & company for the first time this year. I’ll check in on the good (Pete Alonso), the bad (Jacob deGrom’s last two starts) and the ugly (the bullpen, minus Edwin Diaz)  on the Amazins’ as their ten game road trip continues. I’ll chirp in on all of the above and then some, on a jam packed mid-April show you won’t want to miss on this weeks installment of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 65)

NFL Week 3/Jets/Giants, Yanks/MLB's Final Week, NBA News, Tiger Woods

As we hit the homestretch of September, the sports landscape continues to stay on fire. I’ll have it all covered on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Jets suffered a tough loss in Cleveland as the Browns win their first game in almost two years. While the Giants get in the win column with a solid effort down in Houston vs. the Texans. You’ll get all of the analysis of both games, with a trip around the league in another wild and wacky Week 3 in the NFL! The Yankees have concluded their regular season schedule at home. Despite a final homestand record of 5-4, there are plenty of question marks and doubt surrounding this team as it heads into October. There’ll be hot takes abound with the Bombers, plus all of the up to the minute pennant race talk throughout the MLB. Minnesota Timberwolves G/F Jimmy Butler has been the flavor of the week in the NBA and he’d like to play in New York (yes, even the Brooklyn Nets are on the list) Hear my thoughts on the free agent to be next year and whether or not he’s a good fit for the Knicks or Nets. Finally, Tiger Woods has made it back to the top. No, not at a major tournament, but nevertheless, he won the Tour Championship to claim his 80th victory in his illustrious career. What does this mean moving forward? Time will tell, but I have a comment on the possibility of what may be in store for Tiger in 2019. Coming at you fast and furious with all that’s happening in the world of sports on the latest episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 31)

Yankees Rolling, MLB Pennant Races, Tiger Woods/PGA, Sam Darnold Starting Week 1? Saquon's Impact

Back at it with another fast paced sports talk party on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Yankees bounce back with a 6-1 week after losing five in a row, including four against their hated rivals, the Red Sox. I'll get on the Yankee fans who booed Giancarlo Stanton as he's carrying the team without Aaron Judge or Gary Sanchez in the lineup, the vast improvement of Aaron Hicks and the one similarity between Aaron Boone and Mets manager, Mickey Callaway.
