Here on another holiday Monday to commemorate President’s past, I’m here to unwrap the current sports landscape to deliver my thoughts on all that’s happening as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:29) NBA All-Star Weekend has come and gone. Was there anything to get wrapped up in? I don’t think so. In fact, there were a couple of players who weren’t in favor of the new format as far as the actual game goes. Do the players have a better idea for what the All-Star Game should be? I’ll get into Mac McClung’s three peat champion of the Slam Dunk Contest. What if LeBron James participated at the age of 40? Also, should more name players/All-Stars throw their hat in the ring to perform for the fans? I’ll take a look back on the ‘first half’ surprises and disappointments throughout the Association as we’re still days away from the schedule resuming. Oh! And I’ll peak at my over/under win totals to date.

(28:13) Auburn has secured their spot as the best team in the country with a solid win at #2 Alabama on Saturday. Is their game suited for a tournament run next month?

(35:07) Who would’ve thought that the 4 Nations Face-Off would be the talk of the sports world on Saturday night after an epic start to the game between USA-Canada. There were three fights in the first nine seconds of the game, harkening back to yesteryear when fighting was a staple in the sport. Could it make a comeback of sorts for fight fans like myself? I’ll also look at what the ‘first half’ on the ice has been with the surprises and disappointments throughout the NHL, as well as, my over/under point totals on the season at this point.

(51:02) MLB Spring Training is in full swing. There is some news coming out of a couple of camps regarding injuries (Yankees Giancarlo Stanton, in particular) and the Mets newest toy Juan Soto is all smiles on his first day in camp.

(55:51) Men’s tennis player and number one in the world, Jannik Sinner, has been suspended for three months for violating the sports doping policy. Did he get off light?

(1:00:25) William Byron is now a two time Daytona 500 winner after avoiding a crash late in yesterday’s festivities.

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, the sports world may not be filled with an abundance of love over the next month or so, but you know I’ll do my best to have you stick around and indulge on whatever is going on as the latest podcast is here! On deck:

(6:23) Now that the NFL has exited stage left, what is there to discuss as we’ve now entered the self proclaimed, ‘Sports Dead Zone. Pt. 1’.

(9:05) Maybe the NFL hasn’t left us just yet as I have a couple of items to get into. Last week Travis Kelce was riding high, stating during Super Bowl Media Day that he can play at least three more years. Forward one week later, he’s now contemplating his future after an embarrassing Super Bowl loss. Which one is it when it comes to the future Hall of Famer? Kellen Moore is the new head coach in New Orleans after winning a title with the Eagles as offensive coordinator. Will he be successful by the Bayou? 126 million plus people watched the Super Bowl on Sunday. Are you surprised?

(17:27) The NBA is about to embark on their All-Star Break. They’ve changed the format of their game to be more competitive than it has in the past. Will yours truly or anyone else watch? With Luka Doncic suiting up in his debut on Monday as a Laker, are they a bigger threat out West than when they had Anthony Davis? Kevin Durant surpassed 30,000 points for his career. He’s the ninth player in history to do so. We know how great of a player he is, but what about his legacy and impact on the league? What about the Mavericks? The fans are still outraged over the Luka trade, but with their frontcourt looking like a M.A.S.H unit, could it get even uglier than it already is? I’ll go through both conferences to see where these teams are at as two-thirds of the schedule has already been played.

(41:48) The NHL is taking an extended break for the 4 Nations Face-Off that began last night, culminating in a Final next Thursday. Is anyone going to take notice?

(45:50) Is it shocking that the SEC rules the college basketball landscape? As notorious as it is for football, the hardwood is telling the gridiron to ‘hold my beer’. Could we have a scenario come tournament time that three, maybe four teams from the conference will represent in the Final Four?

(50:25) Pitchers and catchers are starting to usher their way into spring training for MLB. The last big time free agent was signed in a one Alex Bregman, who joined the Red Sox. Was this a wise move by the BoSox? Anthony Rendon is going to be out of the lineup yet again for the Angels. Is this the worst contract in baseball history?

(1:01:18) The Super Bowl of Racing is on Sunday as the Daytona 500 is on the horizon. What could I unpack over the next few minutes in trying to handicap this race?

NBA’s 200 Point All-Star Debacle! Islanders Choke In Outdoor Game Loss To Rangers. Purdue Goes Down. UCONN: Team To Beat. Alonso Wants Mets, But Vice Versa? Matsuyama’s 62 Wins Wacky Genesis

Another holiday Monday presents a wild hour of sports talk as we transition away from the NFL with all of the latest happenings in the sports universe as I’ll unpack the following:

(3:00) It was a rough weekend for the NBA as they had to deal with a repeat slam dunk champion (Mac McClung) who’s in the G-League! Plus, an All-Star Game that had one team score over 200 POINTS as the East beat the West. What can they do to fix it? Is it too late to do so? Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has been relieved of his duties. Was it fair? Then you have the finalists for the Naismith Hall of Fame which includes Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups. Why I think both wouldn’t be enshrined in Springfield if it was up to me? The Association is still on a respite as the schedule will pick up on Thursday.

(22:50) You had another stunner in college basketball as #2 Purdue loses to Ohio State, with an interim coach, no less. Does this hurt them for a #1 come tournament time? #1 UCONN is surely looking like a team that’s going to defend their title as they destroyed #4 Marquette in historic fashion. How about Rick Pitino, the head coach of St. John’s? They lost to Seton Hall last night and are now 6-9 in the conference. He had plenty of choice words for his team, calling it a disappointing year, stating how unathletic they are, lacking toughness, going in on his squad as they try to fight for a spot in the tournament. Caitlin Clark sets the women’s record all time for scoring in the sport, eclipsing Kelsey Plum in the process. And sad news as former Maryland coach, Lefty Driesell passed away at age 92.

(30:45) The NHL had a huge weekend with two outdoor games in the same venue. I’ll unwrap the Flyers-Devils meeting on Saturday night, with the second game being a nail biter where the Islanders blew a golden opportunity to beat their crosstown rival Rangers, 6-5 in OT. I was a witness to the latter game. How much that loss stings even a day later may come as a surprise? Also, the nerve of the Ranger fan, sounding like they’ve won 6 or 7 Stanley Cups as I had to deal with them for three plus hours yesterday. Don’t look now, but the Panthers have overtaken the Bruins in the Atlantic Division for the first time since the end of the 2021-22 season. I’ll see what else is happening in the other divisions and keep you up to speed on the latest.

(46:26) With position players reporting throughout the MLB, I have to throw in my two cents regarding Mets 1B, Pete Alonso and his desire to be a lifelong Met. I call out both the VP of baseball ops, David Stearns and of course, the owner, Steve Cohen to put his money where his mouth is as he’s stated in the past that he wants to operate his team like the Braves & Dodgers, to name a couple. There were two low level signings, (Whit Merrifield to Phillies and Liam Hendricks to the Red Sox) as spring training is in full swing.

(54:40) There was a golf tournament over the weekend in LA at the Genesis Invitational. It wasn’t a major, but you had some interesting developments regarding a couple of players. Tiger Woods had to withdraw with an illness after two rounds. Is this the last of Tiger being a dominant fixture on the course? You also had Jordan Spieth disqualified due to an erroneous scorecard. But your winner was Hideki Matsuyama who shot a 62 in the final round to win the tournament as we’re still six or seven weeks from Augusta.

(57:41) The Super Bowl of Racing had to be postponed due to inclement weather at the Daytona 500. They’ll race at 4pm today/Monday. Does this hurt the biggest racing event of the year?

(58:42) UFC had a surprise on Saturday night as Ilia Topuria stunned Alexander Volkanovski in a knockout that I’m sure quite a few didn’t expect. Is a rematch in order at some point in the not too distant future?
