After a busy week of sports, we’re starting to see the light as we’re officially a week away from spring. I have some interesting topics to get into over the course of the next hour as latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:45)The Oklahoma City Thunder went into Boston and beat the defending champs last night in Boston. With the Cleveland Cavaliers on a 15 game winning streak and the best record in the sport, are both teams on a collision course to the NBA Finals? I’ll check the lay of the land in the Association as to where teams stand in the playoff picture as we’re exactly one month away from the season concluding. There was sad news regarding two former NBA players. Junior Bridgeman and Oliver Miller both pass away this week at the ages of 71 & 54 as I pay respects.

(34:11) It’s almost time for the Madness to begin. Conference Championship week in college basketball doesn’t have much when it comes to drama, but there is one team that all eyes are on. Will North Carolina get into the NCAA Tournament? What do they need to do to qualify?

(39:25) The Florida Panthers lose a key figure on their defense as Aaron Ekblad was suspended 20 games violating the league’s drug policy. How will this affect the defending champs down the stretch of the season? Do the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets face similar issues that the Cavaliers and Thunder have in the NBA? Two teams that didn’t have big time expectations coming into this season but are having top notch regular seasons to this point. I’ll bring you up to speed on all that’s happening with the division and wild card races on the ice.

(47:30) NFL free agency is in full bloom as teams procure players for the fall and winter. Have there been any big time acquisitions that have moved the needle? I’ll unpack the top three storylines of the past week as we’re four days into this frenzy.

(1:01:24) Yankee fans, don’t despair. Gerrit Cole is done for 2025 and early 2026 with a torn UCL injury. His loss will be felt, but does this mean that the season is up in smoke? What about his return? Will he be a shell of his old self? Then we find out that former MVP Mo Vaughn was on HGH at the end of his career? Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gets paid as he was extended just a few days ago for the next four years.

(1:06:18) We won’t see Tiger Woods on the Tour this year as he suffered a ruptured Achilles injury. Is Tiger ever going to be anything close to what he once was?

After a super busy weekend in sports, I have my tail between my legs as I’ve got plenty to be sorry for. Don’t worry, I’ll explain it all over the next hour plus as the latest podcast is here! On deck:

(6:42) I open up the podcast with several apologies for my performance on the most recent episode. (I’ll get into it throughout the course of this pod.) There was an NBA MVP battle between SGA & Nikola Jokic. Does Jokic deserve the award, even after losing to SGA yesterday? Who is the front runner at the moment. Also, the comparisons of this race to the NFL with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Is there any concern for LeBron James and the Lakers as he suffered a groin injury late in their loss to the Celtics on Saturday night? He’ll be out a week or two for rest and recovery. I’ll also talk about the Knicks Jalen Brunson, the signing of PJ Tucker, comments from former owner of the Mavericks Mark Cuban about the Luka Doncic deal, a mention of the MAX docu-series on the Celtics and Stephen A. Smith being confronted by LeBron James about his critique of his son. The final topic being a lightning rod, even for someone like myself, where having a platform like this comes a responsibility to uphold. You won’t want to miss those comments, plus all that’s happening in the Association.

(36:49) Has Auburn jeopardized their top seed in the country after losing to Alabama at home 93-91? Could this be a stretch where they could falter entering into the Tournament?

(41:42) The NHL experienced a wild trade deadline on Friday where players were being shipped left and right, most notably, the Bruins fire sale sending Brad Marchand to Florida. And Mikko Rantanen was sent packing again to Dallas for a boatload of picks. I’ll break down all of the major trades, including the Islanders Brock Nelson as teams jockey for playoff positioning down the stretch. Alex Ovechkin in now single digits (nine away) from surpassing Wayne Gretzky. Will the pressure consume him? Or will it be business as usual for the Capitals great? I’ll peek as to what’s going on in the sport with the latest postseason races in each conference.

(57:02) There were some record setting signings and a huge trade and signing by my beloved football team. The Steelers acquired DK Metcalf from the Seahawks for a 2nd round pick, but then paid the talented wideout a five year, $150M dollar deal in the process. The bigger question is, who’s the quarterback? Not Aaron Rodgers has been now rumored. I’ll share who I want as QB as the Steelers go all in on procuring a WR. I’ll dissect the deals inked by Josh Allen, Myles Garrett, Davante Adams (the first two were records in the league) as you’ll get a complete assessment of that and look ahead to free agency, which begins on Wednesday.

(1:06:51) Baseball is technically eight days away (in Tokyo with the Dodgers vs. Cubs) but we’re two and a half weeks away from the season beginning. There have been plenty of injuries that have taken place throughout MLB. The Yankees are holding their collective breaths for the second spring in a row surrounding Gerrit Cole. Is Tommy John likely after he left a start with elbow discomfort? The Orioles have to hold out their young starter, Grayson Rodriguez with the same issue. The Mets have to put catcher Francisco Alvarez on the shelf for 6-8 weeks with a broken hamate bone. Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s final offer to the Blue Jays was below $600 million dollars. How many years was he looking for? Is that too much? And the Athletics keep spending to have their nucleus in tact, extending OF Lawrence Butler to a six year deal.

(1:12:45) Alex Pereira loses his fifth defense of his light heavyweight title to Magomed Ankalaev by unanimous decision on Saturday night. Is a rematch in order?

Tale Of NFL/MLB Free Agency: Cousins Jackpot. Snell/Montgomery NOT. Yanks Await Cole’s Fate. A Kansas Collapse. Kawhi Injury On High Alert. Matt Rempe’s Suspension & Expansion In ATL?

The ides of March are here. Daylight extends past 7pm. Spring is officially five days away. What could be better than that? Yes. Another podcast with yours truly unpacking all that’s happening in the world of sports. On deck:

(4:14) NFL free agency came in roaring like a lion as there was plenty of activity over the past few days, highlighted by the Atlanta Falcons huge signing of QB Kirk Cousins. He got a four year/$180 million dollar deal, which begs the question. Does he really deserve it, coming off an Achilles injury at the age of 36? Then Saquon Barkley takes his talents to Philadelphia which will ratchet up the rivalry between his former team (NY Giants) and his current one. The Baltimore Ravens may have secured the final piece to their Super Bowl puzzle by inking Derrick Henry to a two year deal. What does this mean for Lamar Jackson & co. I’ll go through all of the top deals that took place since Monday as the NFL is front and center to kick us off on the podcast.

(26:11) On the other side of the coin, MLB hasn’t figured out its free agency period as there are TWO top pitchers unsigned (Blake Snell & Jordan Montgomery) now that we’re two weeks away from Opening Day. That ties into what the Yankees may have to decide with the possibility of having to shut down their ace, Gerrit Cole, for an apparent elbow issue. What does this mean for the Bombers if Cole is going to be on the shelf for half a season or the entire year? Plus, the Brewers got bad news as their closer, Devin Williams, will be out for three months due to stress fractures in his back.

(39:00) With conference championship week in full bloom when it comes to college basketball, the Kansas Jayhawks have fallen on hard times as they lost to Cincinnati last night. They’re 22-10 this year. Is this team at the bubble of making/missing the tournament? Will Michigan State, who’s on the bubble, make it to March Madness? And a note for the selection committee on the women’s game. Please have Iowa, South Carolina and LSU in three separate regions, if you want to avoid any criticism from people like myself and beyond.

(46:20) Clippers forward, Kawhi Leonard is hurt (back) and will be out for quite some time. How crucial is this loss during the regular season if he’s not going to be in the lineup? I’ll see what else is happening on the hardwood as we get to the homestretch with the playoffs awaiting a month or so from now.

(51:39) As for the NHL, Rangers tough guy Matt Rempe received a four game suspension for an elbow on a New Jersey Devils player Monday night. Was it too harsh for a first time offense? The Canucks will be without their top goaltender, Thatcher Demko, with a knee injury as they try to secure the #1 seed out West. And why is the city of Atlanta looking for another expansion team as they’ve failed two times previously?

March Madness Begins, NFL Free Agency Fallout, MLB Rule Changes, Clyde Frazier's Comments About LeBron

CORRECTION: During the March Madness segment of the podcast, I mentioned that Tennessee won the SEC Championship. It was Auburn. My apologies for the erroneous information.

Let the Madness begin as March starts to scorch the sports universe on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. Get your brackets ready because we’re going full throttle on the NCAA Tournament as I dissect the regions, who’ll be this years Cinderella and which four teams will represent in Minneapolis to play for the National Championship. The NFL offseason did not disappoint (unless you’re a fan of the football Giants). So much to dive into whether it’s the fallout of the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, the Browns already punching their ticket to the Super Bowl, Le’Veon Bell to the Jets and all of the craziness that ensued during this free agency period. Plus, what players are left standing as teams will now gear up for the NFL Draft. There are some rule changes coming to MLB, two of them happening in this coming year. I’ll deliver what they are and share my thoughts on whether or not it’s good for baseball. Also, will the Yankees not having P Luis Severino in their starting rotation be a major, minor or no problem at all? I’ll have all of that, including the latest in the NBA (Clyde Frazier’s comments about LeBron, playoff seeds in East & West), NHL (Islanders hanging on to first place) and much more on this weeks episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 59)

Antonio Brown Trade & The Aftermath in Pittsburgh, Severino Scare For Yankees, James Dolan Is At It AGAIN!

The Ides of March are here and the sports world is starting to shape up as I have a lot to get into on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Antonio Brown saga in Pittsburgh is finally over, but the aftermath is just beginning. AB strong armed his way off the team, got a new deal and is heading west to Oakland in the process. Who are the winners and losers in this complicated transaction? You’re going to get an earful of sound bites from yours truly as I have a ton to say about all of what took place over the weekend AND what lies ahead for the disgruntled former All-Pro, the Steelers and the Raiders as well. The NFL year commences on Wednesday with plenty of moves on the docket. I’ll get into some of the major player movements that have taken place and what could be on the horizon throughout the league. The Yankees have a major issue to deal with at the top of their pitching rotation as Luis Severino will be out indefinitely with rotator cuff inflammation. What does this mean for the Bombers moving forward? Is there a trade forthcoming? You’ll get my take on what may happen next for the Yanks as we’re two and a half weeks away from Opening Day. The Knicks continue their quest for finishing with the worst record in the NBA. But they’re making news off the court thanks to their owner, James Dolan. I’ll get into what the latest incident regarding the despised leader of the organization was involved in, and yes, maybe it’s time to SELL THE TEAM as what was directed at him during the end of Saturdays’ Kings-Knicks matchup. Plus, the latest in the NBA, NHL and a week and change away from March Madness. Your one stop market to get all of your sports goods every week, here on The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 58)
