Detailing My Florida Travels. Sensational Xander Quells Open Drama To Win Second Major! Are The Astros That Good? Or Mariners Bad? Celtics Huge Payroll Risk. Harbaugh Backs Lamar. ESPN’s 100 List Joke

I’m honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda?  Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase.

Delivering the first of two podcasts as my journey on the road continues, so hop on board to listen to what it is I have to say about what’s happening in the world of sports and with yours truly. On deck:

(3:06) Back doing another podcast ‘al fresco’, outdoors in the sunshine of Central Florida. I’ll share the past four days of my trip. Spending time with family, where my next destination after today will be and even suffering a foot injury while trying to pursue a personal challenge which fell flat after two days. Also, I plug the OLIPOP soda promo which is I implore you to do so.

(8:36) What was built up to be a thrilling Sunday at The Open Championship with a dozen golfers in the mix to win the final major of 2024, Xander Schauffele pulled away from the pack to win his second major in the last three (He won the PGA two months ago) squashing whatever drama us fans were anticipating going into the final round. I’ll discuss how Schauffele was ready for the moment, unlike years prior. How Shane Lowry’s Saturday doomed him from winning a major tournament. And Rory McIlroy’s quest for another major will have to wait another year as his decade-long drought continues.

(18:05) Baseball resumed its schedule over the weekend. The one series that caught my attention was the Seattle Mariners losing grip of first place in the AL West as the Houston Astros won two of three in the Pacific Northwest. Can the Mariners right the ship with a struggling offense and their best player (Julio Rodriguez) out of the lineup for the foreseeable future? What about the Astros? Are they serious contenders in the AL after a dreadful 12-24 start? I’ll keep you posted as the NL Wild Card race is a log jam and what series will pique my interest in the early part of this week.

(35:29) With the Olympics on the horizon, the US Men’s Basketball Team avoided a scare as South Sudan gave them a run for their money in a game on Saturday. Does this mean anything heading into the Games on Friday? Does Russell Westbrook’s trade to Utah and eventual move to Denver move the needle? The defending champion Boston Celtics signed Sam Houser to a four year/$45 million dollar deal. This includes Jayson Tatum, Derrick White and Jrue Holiday signing massive extensions over the past couple of months. Is this a high risk with the salary cap/luxury tax threshold forthcoming? And how I feel that this core MUST win at least one more title to cement their legacy during this run!

(42:49) NFL training camps will be in full bloom come Wednesday as football will be a part of our consciousness moving forward. Do I really have to hear Ravens coach John Harbaugh come to the defense of his quarterback, Lamar Jackson? This is after he failed to take his team to the Super Bowl after another MVP season. I’ll get into a couple of retirements (Shaq Barrett and Kenyon Drake) and the aforementioned Ravens signing some secondary help (former Bears S Eddie Jackson)

(48:21) ESPN recently published a top 100 athletes of the 21st century list, which YOU KNOW, I’ve got major problems with. I’ll just take it from the top 25 to number one as I can spend an entire podcast as to what’s completely wrong about this list. CORRECTION: I mentioned Nellie Fox, when I meant to say Jimmie Foxx as one of the top right handed hitters of all time, in discussing Albert Pujols.

(57:05) I even mention the winner of the Tour de France as it concluded yesterday in Nice, and not in Paris due to the Olympics on Friday. Tadej Pogacar had a historic double to win cycling’s Super Bowl.

MLB’s ’Second Half’ Outlook With Trade Deadline Looming. Bryson, Rory’s Brutal Starts At The Open. 49ers Aiyuk Wants Out? Davante Pining For Former QB As I Take The Pod OUTDOORS!

I’m honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda?  Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase.

Plugging away in the summer heat, back to deliver another podcast with  more of the same through your headphones, earbuds or speakers as I get into all that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(2:38) It’s my first foray in taking the podcast OUTDOORS as I’m in the Sunshine State over the next few days, providing a new and interesting wrinkle to the latest episode. For the visually inclined, I have the VIDEO PODCAST on my YouTube channel so you can see for yourself. (Link to channel is below)

(3:57) Of course, I have to mention my partnership with OLIPOP soda. Please see description above. I greatly appreciate your support!

(4:56) The ‘second half’ of the baseball season will commence tomorrow as the All-Star Break has come and gone. I’ll review what happened at the Home Run Derby & Midsummer Classic earlier this week to set the stage for what could lie ahead over the final two and a half months of the season. I’ll break down the intriguing storylines (i.e. AL division races. NL wild card race) and what impact will it have for those who are fighting for a playoff spot, with the trade deadline looming at the end of the month.

(22:44) The final golf major of the year is at the Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland. It’s already been a struggle for many of its top players as the weather could be a factor over the next few days. With sluggish starts to Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and US Open champion Bryson Dechambeau, will guys miss end up missing the cut?

(28:36) Two big time wide receivers have been in the news as NFL training camp will be in full bloom by this time next week. Brandon Aiyuk wants out of San Francisco, but the front office wants him. If he does get shipped elsewhere, I’ll explain why that wouldn’t be as big of a blow for a 49ers squad expected to compete in the NFC. Then Davonte Adams stated that if he were to play on another team, it would be one where Aaron Rodgers will be under center. Let the rumors begin with the Jets possibly looking to acquire him. Is this an actual possibility? Or is it much ado about nothing?

(35:43) There were a couple of passings, unfortunately, to acknowledge in the NBA. One time executive of the Orlando Magic, Pat Williams, dies at 84. And Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, the father of the late, great Kobe Bryant dies at 69. Then you have Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving nursing a broken hand that he suffered during a workout earlier this month as he should be ready come training camp in late September.

(39:22) Things in the NHL have been rather quiet, but there have been a couple of signings (Kings Quinton Byfield, 5yr//$31M and Islanders Simon Holmstrom gets a one year deal) Plus, one long time Washington Capitals star, Evgeny Kuznetsov decides to go back home and play in the KHL.Please subscribe, leave a rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Audacy, Amazon Music and iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts.

Orioles: AL's Best/World Series Contender? Harman Cruises To Open Championship. NFL Running Backs Unite For More Pay; Respect. Messi's Storybook Goal To Little Or No Attention?

Streaking into the final week of July with the first of THREE podcasts as I get into all that's going on in the world of sports. On deck:

(3:03) Are the Baltimore Orioles ready to take the next step as being a major contender in the AL? They sure showed the baseball world that they may be primed for a World Series run come October after winning three of four and taking over the AL East vs. Tampa Bay. There is a key missing ingredient that may stand in the middle of the way of a deep postseason run or a short one. I'll get into that, plus everything else happening in the MLB (Reds playing better, Dodgers with a first place cushion after a successful road trip, the Twins overtake first place in the AL Central) with a look at both the AL & NL Wild Card races to date.

(25:15) There wasn't much, if any, drama surrounding the final golf major of the year as Brian Harman was your runaway winner of The Open Championship. Which means another year goes by for Rory McIlroy not winning a Grand Slam tournament as I'll go in great detail.

(34:27) There's been a rallying cry for the respect of the running back in the NFL as there was a Zoom call with some of the top RB's in the sport over the weekend. Will this call amount to more money and notice among the GM's and owners of these teams to get their true worth? We don't have to worry about Daniel Snyder anymore as the sale of the Commanders is official. Will this new regime try to bring back the glory days of what this proud franchise once was?

(45:04) Lionel Messi's debut with Inter Miami was storybook to say the least as he scored a goal in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul. Did this development rock the sports world here in the US? Or was it just an afterthought?

O's-Rays Showdown In AL East, Reds/Marlins Sliding, Puzzling Yanks Headline MLB. Open Tees Off With Rory On Notice. Giants/Saquon Stand-Off. Embiid Wants Title In Philly Or Not? Will Messi-Mania Last?

We're starting to see a change in the stratosphere as the sports world is showing some life coming out of its dead zone. I'm here to relay all of the good, bad and ugly of the past few days as the most recent edition is available for your edification. On deck:

(2:39) For the first time all year, the Tampa Bay Rays do not have sole possession of first place as the Baltimore Orioles are percentage points ahead of them in the AL East. That sets up a gargantuan showdown between the two teams this weekend starting tonight in a four game series. The Reds and Marlins have hit the skids after the break, trying to get back some of their mojo from earlier in the month. What has happened to the Yankees? They've been a huge disappointment losing two of three to Colorado, then getting swept by Anaheim this week. You know I'll dissect all that's going on in the Bronx as they try to keep their heads above water in this AL playoff chase. I'll see what else is happening in MLB as we're just 12 days away from the trade deadline.

(20:08) The final golf major of 2023 has commenced as The Open out in Northern England. The big story is how will Rory McIlroy perform as he's on the verge on a nine year drought between major wins. How will he fare here on a course where he won the Open back in 2014?

(28:49 ) A couple of NFL training camps have opened up as we get ready to reintroduce football to our consciousness. The Giants and Saquon Barkley are apart when it comes to a long term contract. How will this take into shape as we get deeper into summer? DeAndre Hopkins found a new home in Tennessee. Is he a good fit with the Titans? Cowboys All-Pro Zach Martin is holding out due to a contract issue. And the Steelers re-signed LB Alex Highsmith to a multi-year deal.

(40:21) Free agent James Harden is interested in becoming an LA Clipper. Are the Clippers interested in him? Reigning MVP Joel Embiid recently stated that he wants to win a championship in Philadelphia or somewhere else. Is this a case of reading between the lines based on what he said? Or is it much ado about nothing?

(46:12) Lionel Messi gets introduced to the MLS and the American sports landscape as he's scheduled to play in his first game tomorrow. Will he and his play have a lasting impact on the sport? The league? If not, what will it take to do so?
