A Potential SIX Game 7’s In The NBA & NHL This Weekend? PGA Golf Preview. Can We Flush The NFL Schedule Release Day? MLB In The Wilderness? Mystik Dan Set Up To Win Or Lose?

I’m honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with Olipop soda? If not, you’ll definitely want to acquaint yourself with this healthy, crisp and refreshing beverage that has no GMO’s, organic with natural ingredients that you can read. They have the classics (Vintage Cola, Root Beer, Ginger Ale, Lemon Lime) as well as new flavors that are irresistible (Banana Cream, Watermelon Lime and my favorite, Tropical Punch) Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, type in SODALOVE for 15% off of your purchase.

(3:45) After a brief weather report in my neck of the woods, my theme to start off the podcast is the possibility of not one, not two, but SIX Game 7’s in the NBA & NHL postseason? I’ll start off with the NBA and discuss Denver’s unlikely comeback to close out the T’wolves in Game 6. Will the Pacers & now Thunder (who I’m disappointed in) force a Game 7 as well? The Celtics are the only team not to go six games as they’ve punched their ticket to another Conference Final beating the Cavaliers in five.

(23:22) Are the Rangers in trouble of blowing a 3-0 series lead? Can the Bruins push the Panthers to a deciding game, similar to what Florida did to them last year? Dallas struggles to close out Colorado in their building. Will the Avalanche push the top seeded Stars to the brink? As for the Oilers-Canucks, that series is tied at 2. Can Edmonton win two of the final three? Or will Vancouver take care of the Oilers in six? Seven?

(35:18) The second leg of golf’s Grand Slam is in Louisville, KY as the PGA Championship commences today. Who’ll be at the top of the leaderboard and win when it’s all said and done?

(40:33) Can we please do away with the NFL schedule release? I’ll share my displeasure of the past couple of days. Plus, what did the Pittsburgh Steelers do to The Shield to deserve a gauntlet over the final eight games where SIX of those are in the division. WHAT!!?? Speaking of schedules, I’ll talk about the big games that’ll open up the college football season starting on Labor Day weekend.

(52:16) Is anyone paying attention to what’s going on in MLB? It’s been rather quiet over the past few days. I’ll get into a pitcher (Astros Ronel Blanco) who was suspended earlier in the week for using sticky stuff. Also, the Mets struggles as they haven’t won a series in almost a month. I’ll peek at what are the top matchups over the coming weekend.

(57:05) The Preakness is Saturday. Derby winner Mystik Dan will race against a field of eight horses. (Wait! EIGHT?!) And heavy favorite Muth has been scratched due to a spiked fever. Is this set up for Mystik Dan to win and have a shot at the Triple Crown? Or to fail based on the sparse field and a top horse out of the lineup?

The NBA's Disastrous Last 11 Days, Topped By An Epic Celtic Meltdown. NHL's Panthers: Hockey's Miami Heat? MLB Under The Radar? Jim Brown Tribute. Koepka's 3rd PGA Win. Nadal Out For '23

(3:04) The NBA will never admit it, but I will. The last eleven days have been an out and out disaster evidenced by how these Conference Finals have unfolded. Denver looks like a team on a mission to where the Lakers have fallen short. Whereas Miami has undressed and embarrassed the Celtics making them look small. I'll have a complete breakdown as to why the Association has been deplorable over the last week and a half and share my utter disdain for how this Celtic team has shown up in this series.

(28:15) There are similar parallels between the NBA & Stanley Cup Playoff Conference Finals. In the East, you have an upstart #8 seed in Florida (Sounds familiar) take a 2-0 series lead over the Carolina Hurricanes. Out West, you have the #1 seeded Vegas Golden Knights up 2-0 vs. the Dallas Stars who are kicking themselves as they've had opportunities to tie or even have a 2-0 lead as well.

(38:18) Is it me or has the baseball season been below or under the radar as we're almost two months in? I'll bring you up to date on the MLB, whether it's the Orioles sweeping the Blue Jays in Toronto, with the Yankees up next. Same for the Astros now that they have Jose Altuve back. The Padres have hit on hard times early on, but the Arizona Diamondbacks have overachieved. Can they make a push in the NL West as the Dodgers starting pitching staff has fallen on hard times? Will the Oakland A's threaten the 1962 Mets for the worst record ever in a regular season?

(47:21) An NFL legend and sports icon has passed away. I'll pay tribute to the late, great Jim Brown who died at the age of 87 on Thursday. I'll get into the impact he made both on and off the field as the greatest football player in the history of the sport transitions.

(51:28) Brooks Koepka won his third PGA Championship over the weekend as he hung on to beat both Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler in the final round as the second leg of golf's Grand Slam is in the books.

(55:18) Rafael Nadal, the king of the clay court with the French Open kicking off next Monday, will not play for the rest of 2023 due to a hip ailment. In fact, he stated that 2024 will be his last year on the tour. What does this mean for the sport with three more Grand Slam tournaments on the docket over the next four months?

(58:06) The Belmont Stakes are an afterthought as Kentucky Derby winner Mage came in third at the Preakness on Saturday (National Treasure was victorious) so the horse racing season will come to a quiet close.

(58:37) Controversy over a decision in the sport of boxing? We saw one Saturday night as Devin Haney retains his lightweight title unanimously to the chagrin of the corner and management of Vasiliy Lomachenko. Is a rematch a foregone conclusion? What about a bout between Haney and Gervonta Davis?

NBA Conference Finals: Sloppy Celtics, Heat Attitude, Nuggets Time? Laker Adjustments. Unglamorous NHL Semifinal Matchups. Yankee 'Chirpgate'/NY Walk-Offs. PGA Championship Preview

Another week concludes with a fiery podcast as I deliver all the heat that the sports world has to offer. On deck:

(2:35) The Celtics sloppy play rears its ugly head in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals last night. They lose Game 1 at home to the Miami Heat as turnovers and missed shots doom them and lose home court advantage in the process. Will they be able to get the series even at 1-1? Denver's Nikola Jokic had a monster Game 1 as they hung on to beat the Lakers. Have the Lakers figured out a few things in preparation for a possible Game 2 upset? I'll also discuss the firing of Sixers coach Doc Rivers and how I'm still fuming over the Spurs winning the Draft Lottery and the probability of securing the next generational prospect, Victor Wembanyama.

(26:07) The Conference Finals in the NHL commence tonight. By any means, both of these matchup will likely not draw eyeballs to the sets, but I'll preview Florida-Carolina and Dallas-Vegas as to who'll make that next step to get to a Stanley Cup Final. In fact, which is the best draw that the NHL would want for a championship?

(34:43) As the MLB is more than a quarter into the season. The Dodgers are holding their collective breaths at the right arm of starting pitcher, Dustin May, who had to leave a game earlier this week with a right forearm strain. The Yankees have had an interesting week as you had 'Chirpgate', Aaron Boone's inexplicable ejection, the suspension of Domingo German and getting walked off in extra innings up in Toronto. Where the Mets had their own walk-off in their biggest win of the season vs. Tampa Bay. Will that be what the doctor ordered for a team that's severely underachieved this year at 21-23? How about the Padres, who have been just as bad as the Mets. And the Oakland A's light at the end of the tunnel will be in Las Vegas as they've purchased land to build a new stadium, set for 2027.

(43:20) Kentucky Derby winner Mage will race in The Preakness on Saturday. Is it possible that another victory is on the horizon, so there could be some Triple Crown buzz heading into The Belmont Stakes?

(44:42) I'll preview and discuss a couple of storylines (i.e. Rory McIlroy) the second Grand Slam golf major this year as the PGA Championship takes place up in Rochester, NY over the upcoming weekend.

Warriors On Cusp Of Finals. An Ugly Heat-Celtics Series. NHL's Panthers: Frauds? Oilers In Driver's Seat? Donaldson Dustup Fuels Yanks-White Sox. Thomas's Epic Comeback Wins PGA. French Open Preview

Here to deliver all that the sports world has to offer, you’ve come to the right place to get my opinions and analysis as we kick off the week with a loaded podcast. On deck:

(4:15) The NBA postseason has been anything but great, even good, for that matter. As evidenced by two Conference Finals that has one on the brink of conclusion (the Warriors taking a 3-0 series lead) and the ugliness of Games 2 & 3 between Miami & Boston. Game 3 did get interesting in the final few minutes, but I'll tell you why that game was tough to take if you're a Celtic fan? With both series potentially over by Wednesday night, there may be a case where you'll have EIGHT days between then and the start of the NBA Finals on June 2nd, which the league is privately holding their collective breaths.

(19:45) What happened to the Florida Panthers? The President's Trophy winner of the regular season could be out of the playoffs as early as tonight, as the Lightning have a commanding 3-0 lead in their best of seven series. Will they have any fight, or show some pride to avoid a sweep? The Battle of Alberta has the Edmonton Oilers in favor with a 2-1 series advantage. Are they in the driver's seat to win over their hated rival Flames? The Avalanche have a leg up on the Blues as they won Game 3 in St. Louis, which has led to a little controversy regarding Avs center, Nazem Kadri. He ran into Blues goaltender, Jordan Binnington, who is now lost for the remainder of the series. Kadri has received death threats from people out in social media because of this incident. How will this impact the Avalanche remains to be seen? And the Rangers have gotten themselves back in the series as the scene shifts to Madison Square Garden with a win over the Hurricanes.

(32:33) The White Sox and Yankees went at it over the weekend, where sparks flew between Yankees 3B Josh Donaldson and White Sox SS Tim Anderson. Donaldson's remark toward Anderson caused an uproar on the field and in the postgame of alleged racist undertones toward the shortstop, where Donaldson was pleading his case. Did Donaldson cross the line? Was it offensive? Should Donaldson be suspended for his actions? Albert Pujols hit two home runs yesterday to bring his all time number to 683. Will he catch or surpass Alex Rodriguez for fourth place in his quest to hit 700 for his career? I'll revisit the Max Scherzer injury as the Mets try to hold down the fort until his return, which could also coincide the return of Jacob deGrom in late June/early July. The Padres have played very well without Fernando Tatis Jr. and Blake Snell. They come off of a sweep of the Giants in San Francisco as they're just a half game back in the NL West behind the Dodgers. I'll take a trip throughout the major leagues and assess what's happening as we're starting to see some separation between the haves and have nots.

(47:41) The second golf major (PGA Championship) of 2022 was completed over the weekend. In dramatic fashion, Justin Thomas wins in a playoff vs. Will Zalatoris. The toughest loss of all was Mito Pereira who had the competition won, but double bogeyed on the 18th hole nullifying him of winning the PGA. Combine that with a furious comeback by Thomas. It was a not so great tournament but it did deliver a thrilling end as he wins his second PGA in his career.

(51:54) There's already been an upset at the French Open as Naomi Osaka was ousted in the first round. I'll preview both the men's and women's side as to who has a run in them to make it to a final. Although the men's bracket is puzzling as you have Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and young upstart, Carlos Alcaraz all on the same side to where one of those three could potentially not make it to a semifinal match, let alone a final.

(56:21) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Celtics/Mavs Look To Even Up Series. NHL's 2nd Round: Battle Of Alberta/Florida, Rangers Psyche? Judge/Yankees Torrid Stretch, Scherzer On Shelf? Tiger/Scheffler: A PGA Preview

Back on the scene for a mid week pod to bring you up to speed on all that's going on in the sports world. On deck:

(4:16) The Conference Finals have begun in the NBA as the Warriors and Heat jump out to 1-0 series leads. Will the Mavericks and Celtics get the equalizer? Can they come back and even each series down 0-2? The evolution of the Heat's Jimmy Butler as a top player in the league. I'll have answers to the questions above and lots more as we get a bit closer to an NBA Final.

(17:28) The second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs commenced on Tuesday night as we've already had a couple of thrilling overtime games as the Hurricanes come back late in the third period and win in the extra frame vs. the Rangers. What will that do to the psyche of a team with a young goaltender in Igor Shesterkin? The Blues couldn't upset the Avalanche as they lose in OT. The Battle of Alberta should be a barnburner, as evidenced by a 9-6 shootout win for the Flames. And The Battle of the Sunshine State goes to Tampa Bay as they win Game 1 as they look to go on a deep run and defend their two time Cup winning status. Can the Panthers win this series if they were to go down 0-2? Plus, my thoughts on the new Islanders coach, Lane Lambert. I'll share what they really need as they go into the offseason looking for reinforcements to get back to the postseason next year.

(32:45) I've been singing the same tune when it comes to baseball over the last few podcasts, but the Yankees continue to mash and run roughshod over the American League as they could potentially be 20 games over .500 before they've played their 40th game of the year. Aaron Judge has been the story as he has his sights set on a monster season and a monster payday when it's all said and done. So far, that's coming up roses on his part. What does this mean for the Yankee front office when the time comes to pony up? On the other side of town, the Mets are dealing with some health issues regarding their pitching staff. In particular, free agent prize Max Scherzer, as he had to remove himself from the game last night. Should the Met fan start to worry? I'll also check the landscape of the sport and deliver the latest of what's going on as we're eight days away from Memorial Day weekend.

(42:11) The PGA Championship begins today at Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK. How will the weather and golf course play out over the next four days? Does Tiger Woods have a shot to win or stay close to the top of the leaderboard? What about #1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler? Can he win back to back major tournaments? I'll predict who'll raise the trophy come Sunday evening and also get into the recent demise of defending champion, Phil Mickelson, who is not participating due to some personal issues swirling around him.

(50:33) Unfortunately the Preakness will have no buzz on Saturday as Derby winner, Rich Strike has withdrawn from the race. I have a theory as to why they're holding back this horse from attempting to chase history.

Mickelson's Historic PGA Win, NBA's Play-In 'Future' & Weekend Recap, NHL's Closing Out 1st Round (Caps Reload? Unload?) MLB's No-Hitters: No Big Deal? Reminiscing: The Indy 500!

If spring in your neck of the woods is feeling more like summer these days, then the sports world is already scorching as if it’s July & August as another fast paced, action packed podcast is officially online. Episode #195 packs a lot of heat. On deck:

(5:25) Phil Mickelson does the unthinkable by winning his first major in eight years to become the oldest player to win a major tournament. Were the elements at Kiawah Island to blame for some bad play by golf’s top players? What kind of momentum will Lefty have going into the US Open? The one title that’s missing from his mantle. And what happened with the crowd and security at the 18th hole during the final round?

(22:14) The NBA completed its first weekend of playoff games. I’ll look back on the play-in tournament. Why it’s time to shelve it? Now the league is flirting with a mid-season tournament? You know I have much to say about those two topics. I’ll recap the games from Saturday & Sunday, with a thought on the Lakers loss in Phoenix and Memphis’s early upset of Utah.

(41:00) The NHL is about to close their opening round series, while Colorado and Boston await the next round. Will the Capitals regroup this offseason? Or is it time to disband a team led by all time great, Alexander Ovechkin? Same for the Penguins, if they don’t make it out of this round vs. the Islanders? The Oilers falling flat on their faces thus far. The Maple Leafs rebound after losing their captain. Will Nashville extend Carolina to the limit? Many questions abound as things continue to heat up on the ice.

(55:09) Two more no-hitters in the MLB this past week. Why has there been SIX of them before Memorial Day? I have an interesting take as to what’s going on as baseball looks to find their way through this lackluster start. Plus, the Padres, Dodgers and Yankees are hot, with the Bombers winning eight consecutive series. Mike Trout’s injury, Pujols delivers for the other LA team, White Sox manager Tony La Russa mishandling of Yermin Mercedes and a thought on the late Pirate, Rennie Stennett, with an obscure record that must be mentioned.

(1:13:07) I also make a brief mention of an event that’s taking place this weekend, which was one that I remembered as a boy that kicked off the unofficial beginning of summer: The Indianapolis 500.

(1:15:38) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

A's: MLB's Best? Lakers In Peril? NHL 'Round 2' Predictions. Koepka/Johnson Head Games? Morikawa's Shot Wins PGA, Power 5 Shutdown?

Creeping into the middle of August delivering insight, analysis, opinions and then some as I zip through the sports world as Episode 149 does not disappoint. On deck:

(4:14) Have you, the fans/listeners, embraced the return of sports after a four and a half month layoff?

(8:08) Taking a plunge into the MLB to chat about the hottest team in baseball (Oakland A’s). Are they the best team in baseball? I’ll also discuss the Marlins back in action, the Cardinals missing in action, the Braves lose a major piece to their rotation, Albert Pujols on the cusp of catching a legend, the wondrous Fernando Tatis, Jr. and I don’t want to hear talk about a .400 hitter just yet.

(25:30) The NBA will conclude their re-start regular season this week. Are the Lakers in peril? Zion & the Pelicans fall short of the postseason, the resurgence of Portland and the Phoenix Suns? Is a Luka-Giannis rivalry in our future? And why does it seem that Kawhi Leonard’s knees are never healthy?

(39:37) The NHL Qualifying Round is complete. (Sorry, Maple Leaf fans) It’s onto the Conference Quarterfinals. I’ll preview ‘Round 2’, what to watch for and make some predictions along the way.

(47:09) The PGA ended in thrilling style, but first, some words exchanged between Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy over Dustin Johnson’s lack of major titles on the tour. The main story is Collin Morikawa’s stunning win at the age of 23 in only his second major event. I’ll get into what took place and how did Tiger Woods fare in his quest to get to that elusive 16th major title.

(52:36) I’ll touch briefly on the NFL opt-out scenario and health status of two QB’s in the league.

(54:19) Despite some of college football’s best players wanting to opt IN on the upcoming season, the powers that be in the Power Five conferences are thinking that there may not be a season after all. I’ll explain in great detail as to why I agree with people who run those conferences as opposed to the players.

(1:00:52) An update on a couple of key players opting out of the US Open Tennis Tournament at the end of the month.

(1:02:24) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Yankees Rolling, MLB Pennant Races, Tiger Woods/PGA, Sam Darnold Starting Week 1? Saquon's Impact

Back at it with another fast paced sports talk party on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Yankees bounce back with a 6-1 week after losing five in a row, including four against their hated rivals, the Red Sox. I'll get on the Yankee fans who booed Giancarlo Stanton as he's carrying the team without Aaron Judge or Gary Sanchez in the lineup, the vast improvement of Aaron Hicks and the one similarity between Aaron Boone and Mets manager, Mickey Callaway. I'll also go around the horn to check out the MLB landscape, what pennant races are heating up and how four divisions may come down to the last weekend of the baseball season to capture a division title. You'll get my thoughts on Tiger Woods's close call of winning his 15th major championship this past weekend at the PGA. Plus, will this recent stretch of success carry over into 2019 into The Masters? Finally, you'll hear what I have to say about Sam Darnold's chance of winning the starting QB job for the Jets. And Saquon Barkley's impact on this Giants offense. All of that, and then some on this weeks' episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 24)
