A Sports Fan's Dilemma That's Unnoticed...Until NOW! Dodgers Smell Title/An Epic GM 4/Previewing GM 6. NFL WK 7 Winners/Losers, BIG 10 Upset, NBA To Start Before X-Mas?

I’ve got plenty of sports tricks and treats to serve as I close out October in spooky style as Episode 161 is up and running. On deck:

(2:37) I set up the podcast with a sports dilemma on the horizon that NO ONE has mentioned or brought up on TV, radio or other form of digital entertainment. I’ll explain later.

(3:39) I’ll recap the first five games of the World Series as the Dodgers are one win away from that elusive championship. I’ll get into various strategies by the managers AND analytics that’ll make you pull your hair out of your head. The euphoric, classic Game 4. Max Muncy’s nerve and preview a recipe for the Tampa Bay Rays to push it to a Game 7.

(25:29) The signing of Antonio Brown in Tampa Bay. What to possibly expect? The Ravens trade for a pass rushing lineman. All of the Week 7 winners and losers throughout the NFL, highlighting the Steelers rise, the Patriots fall, another putrid schedule in Week 8 and much more.

(49:24) The Big Ten enters the college football landscape and there’s already been a huge upset. I’ll discuss that, review a ho-hum Saturday and next week doesn’t look any better from a schedule perspective (except for Ohio State vs. Penn State)

(55:26) The NBA will decide later this week if a 72 game season starting before Christmas is feasible. What are the obstacles? Possibilities? Advantages? Disadvantages? I’ll share my thoughts on all of the above with analysis of coaching hires in New Orleans and Indiana. Also, is Gordon Hayward being shipped out of Boston?

(1:04:17) I close out with what I started at the top. How will we deal with the next two months (AT LEAST) with watching only ONE sport! A commentary that you won’t want to miss.

A whirlwind of sports chatter as I navigate the entire landscape for your edification as Episode #155 is set for take off. On deck:

The Lakers continue to dominate. The Heat are well rested, getting ready to prepare for a battle tested but weary Celtics team in the Eastern Conference Finals. I’ll preview that series. Also, will Giannis Antetekoumpo sign the supermax and stay in Milwaukee this off-season? And two coaching changes with teams ousted from the bubble in OKC and Houston.

(26:21) The NHL has had an underwhelming postseason to date with close out games expected for Dallas and Tampa Bay as they’re both one win away from going to the Stanley Cup Finals. (1:08:30) As the US Open tennis concludes, I’ll preview the US Open Golf which starts on Thursday. There are a couple of key performers who’ll be out at Winged Foot, but the field is stacked as the second leg of this truncated golf season is up next.

A jam packed sports podcast party on this Labor Day as I zoom through the sports landscape on Episode 153. On deck:

(3:22) The surprising Islanders advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. How did they do it? What about their next opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning? I’ll have plenty of thoughts on this, a prediction and look at what’s happening in the Western Conference.

(25:23) The NBA playoffs are in the second round and the Bucks have been a major story as they survive a sweep at the hands of the Miami Heat. I have an assessment on how to unlock reigning MVP, Giannis Antetekoumpo’s next ‘cheat code’ to take his game to the next level. Also, is this it for coach Mike Budenholzer? Will Kemba Walker step up in this series? What about Russell Westbrook? Rajon Rondo? All of the playoff breakdown from the bubble and will Steve Nash be able to mesh with his new team in Brooklyn?

(43:38) I’ll remember the lives of two great Hall of Famers who have passed in MLB (Tom Seaver & Lou Brock). I’ll discuss the state of the Yankees as they’ve taken a bit of a freefall here in early September, as well as, a lay of the land throughout baseball as we’re three weeks away from the end of the regular season.

Impact Of The NBA 'Walkout'. An Underwhelming NBA & NHL Postseason. Padres Big Buyers At Deadline. Mets Reinvent Losing. NFL Storyline That Can't Be Ignored. US Open Tennis Preview

Closing out the month with gusto as I deliver another action packed, fast paced, sports podcast party on Episode 152. On deck:

(3:09) I’m in a testy mood as I share a roller coaster Sunday with my beloved sports teams.

(4:43) I recap the NBA walkout from Wednesday, led by the Milwaukee Bucks, its impact and why it was only a message and not a statement. NOTE: Check my Instagram page (@thejayreelzpodcast) for a fifteen minute video dissecting the 48 hours after the Bucks decided not to play, with lots of in-depth analysis and instant reaction to what took place in the NBA bubble.

(14:32) A lack of drama and suspense is the theme for the NBA’s first round of the playoffs, but the possibility of a future rivalry (or two) could come out of it. I touch on the Heat-Bucks Conference Semifinal and do the Celtics have what it takes to go deep into the Eastern Conference postseason?

(22:53) Pretty much the same deal in the NHL as all teams are one win away from facing each other in the Conference Finals. The resurging Lightning, the upstart Islanders, the surprising Stars and the odds on favorite Golden Knights are thisclose from moving on.

(29:37) The Padres have become the darling of this years trade deadline as they’ve made some key moves to ensure a trip to October. Are there any other big trades forthcoming? I have to take a look at my beloved Mets as the last couple of days have been brutal, their GM a step above that, but there is some hope for a brighter future ahead. I’ll take a look at the standings as we’re on the eve of September pennant baseball commencing tomorrow.

(48:59) The NFL season is ten days away. There’s a theme that I haven’t heard or read about which is critical to the first few weeks of the upcoming campaign. You won’t want to miss that. Also, the Jaguars complete their teardown and the reconstruction begins!

(55:00) The US Open tennis tournament has arrived. Is there anyone that can beat Novak Djokovic? Who can threaten Naomi Osaka? Can Serena get back to the Grand Slam mountaintop? I’ll preview what the next two weeks will possibly look like as the second Slam of the year is here.

(58:26) Sadly, there are a few tragic and untimely passings to report as former NBA player, Cliff Robinson, famed Georgetown Hoya coach, John Thompson and actor who portrayed Jackie Robinson on screen, Chadwick Boseman have left us.

The Golden Knights goaltender controversy regarding G Marc Andre Fleury, the travesty of the NHL today opposed to 30+ years ago, and Islanders-Flyers second round preview. (A reverse jinx in store?) Mike Milbury’s comments which led to his dismissal at NBCSN.

Traveling through the sports landscape with a fury as, yours truly, delivers another jam-packed, sports podcast party on a historic Episode 150. On deck:

(3:18) Recapping the trail blazed by Damian Lillard as the bubble MVP will go against the mighty Lakers! Is there an upset in the making? Will the clock strike twelve for Portland? I’ll break down that series and all of the first round matchups, including the disrespect of the Raptors? And the Celtics title hopes hinge on a couple of veterans. Also, the firing of Pelicans’ coach, Alvin Gentry and Kings GM, Vlade Divac.

(31:25) Dissecting the decision made by Boston Bruins goalie, Tuukka Rask, to forego the rest of the postseason due to COVID-19. The Islanders are experiencing a deja vu of the first round, yet again. I’ll explain. I’ll review what the conference quarterfinals look like to date and the Rangers win the draft lottery??? Ugh! I have plenty to say about that.

(45:39) The Reds are the latest team to be affected by COVID-19. What does this mean now that this is the SECOND NL Central team to be impacted by the virus? Some key injuries with division leaders, in particular, the Yankees who won’t skip a beat. But can a bubble work in the postseason for the MLB? It could be a tall order, but I’ll go in-depth as to why it can work. And a brief rant on the Mets on their lost weekend in Philadelphia.

(1:01:56) The unlikely return of QB Alex Smith. Two of the leagues best tight ends sign enormous contracts, but Jerry Jones highlights the NFL segment as his silence has spoken volumes over the last three plus months. i’ll detail why he needs to speak up and not hold back for an owner whose never met a camera or microphone he didn’t like.

(1:06:47) How a QB from the Big Ten is using his voice and support to reinstate the conference in playing football this fall? It’s a mighty task that will be tough to overcome EVEN if the top coaches in the Big Ten (i.e. Jim Harbaugh, Ryan Day and Kirk Ferentz) were to speak up!

(1:11:21) My Hero and Zero of the Week.

A's: MLB's Best? Lakers In Peril? NHL 'Round 2' Predictions. Koepka/Johnson Head Games? Morikawa's Shot Wins PGA, Power 5 Shutdown?

Creeping into the middle of August delivering insight, analysis, opinions and then some as I zip through the sports world as Episode 149 does not disappoint. On deck:

(4:14) Have you, the fans/listeners, embraced the return of sports after a four and a half month layoff?

(8:08) Taking a plunge into the MLB to chat about the hottest team in baseball (Oakland A’s). Are they the best team in baseball? I’ll also discuss the Marlins back in action, the Cardinals missing in action, the Braves lose a major piece to their rotation, Albert Pujols on the cusp of catching a legend, the wondrous Fernando Tatis, Jr. and I don’t want to hear talk about a .400 hitter just yet.

(25:30) The NBA will conclude their re-start regular season this week. Are the Lakers in peril? Zion & the Pelicans fall short of the postseason, the resurgence of Portland and the Phoenix Suns? Is a Luka-Giannis rivalry in our future? And why does it seem that Kawhi Leonard’s knees are never healthy?

(39:37) The NHL Qualifying Round is complete. (Sorry, Maple Leaf fans) It’s onto the Conference Quarterfinals. I’ll preview ‘Round 2’, what to watch for and make some predictions along the way.

(47:09) The PGA ended in thrilling style, but first, some words exchanged between Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy over Dustin Johnson’s lack of major titles on the tour. The main story is Collin Morikawa’s stunning win at the age of 23 in only his second major event. I’ll get into what took place and how did Tiger Woods fare in his quest to get to that elusive 16th major title.

(52:36) I’ll touch briefly on the NFL opt-out scenario and health status of two QB’s in the league.

(54:19) Despite some of college football’s best players wanting to opt IN on the upcoming season, the powers that be in the Power Five conferences are thinking that there may not be a season after all. I’ll explain in great detail as to why I agree with people who run those conferences as opposed to the players.

(1:00:52) An update on a couple of key players opting out of the US Open Tennis Tournament at the end of the month.

(1:02:24) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Open Apology To The Yankee Fans, Cespedes Debacle & The Abominable Mets, Zion's Minutes Restriction? NHL's Speech On Race/Early Upsets, NFL Player Opt Outs & A Bubble?

Get ready to absorb a ton of passionate sports talk in your speakers or earbuds because, yours truly, is bringing all kinds of smoke on Episode 148. On deck is the following:

(2:35) Not in the best of (sports) moods, so I have to hold myself accountable to a declaration on a previous podcast (Episode 103) that the Yankees will win the World Series in 2020. I’ll explain. Is an MLB shutdown on the horizon as more COVID cased pop up in baseball? Joe Kelly’s suspension and a Met rant unlike any other (20:50) as I undress this organization from the top (ownership & general manager) right down to the bottom (Yoenis Cespedes sudden exit from the team) It’s one you certainly WON’T want to miss!

(35:48) The NBA re-start has come to some good reviews, but is it too early to tell how these teams will fare in the long run? Why the New Orleans Pelicans are going about this minutes restriction with prized rookie Zion Williamson the wrong way?

(42:17) The NHL drops the puck as the postseason is underway. I’ll get into Minnesota D Matt Dumba’s stirring speech about the current state of racial tension and injustice. The #12 seeds in each conference get a leg up on upsets as the Blackhawks and Canadiens strike first blood. Also, the return of Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist and was the hit on Jets star Mark Scheifele intentional?

(50:02) More players in the NFL are opting out, but the deadline to declare is this coming week? Is that fair? And what will it take to REALLY shake up the NFL as far as player opting out is concerned? A bubble for the NFL? Why that isn’t feasible, and quite frankly, impossible to pull off? Why the best player in the NFL isn’t the #1 player ranked on football’s top 100 is beyond me!

(57:34) Golf will finally usher in its first major of 2020, as Justin Thomas becomes the #1 player in the world with his win over the weekend.

Get ready for a fast paced, jam packed sports podcast party as Episode 147 delivers more heat than a July afternoon! On deck:

(2:24) COVID-19 rocks the Miami Marlins as two games are canceled due to multiple players and coaches contracting the virus. What’s next? I’ll recap opening weekend, the playoff format for 2020, injuries to key pitchers (Verlander & Kluber) the Blue Jays new ‘home’, Mookie Betts’s contract, Juan Soto, kneeling for the anthem and two issues with the Mets three games into their season.

(24:25) The Clippers fallout with Lou Williams leaving the bubble and ending up in a strip club HAVING DINNER? Also, thoughts regarding Porzingis, Zion and the new Knicks coach.

(34:05) Breaking down the NFL health and safety protocols. Why the risk is higher in the NFL than the other sports, in particular, off the field? The Jamal Adams blockbuster to Seattle. Why this was similar to the Mets situation with Jacob deGrom a couple of years back and who’s to blame for the departure? Plus, the Washington Football Team? (????) QB Alex Smith’s comeback, Chris Jones and Tyreek Hill’s Miami Heat impression of how many Super Bowls the KC Chiefs can win? A player opting out this year and a retirement.

(54:40) NHL news and notes regarding various players as the postseason is upon us. A Maple Leaf hero passes away, the Kraken have invaded the NHL’s newest franchise in Seattle and a playoff prediction of the first round? Yes. With a question mark! I’ll explain.

Are You Ready? Baseball Ushers In Sports Return! My Pseudo MLB Preview (Mets Included) NFL Players: Where's The Health Memo? Russ, Zion & NBA Bubble News. NHL Rarin' To Go!

We’re just about there! The wait is almost over! Sports is making its way back and here to cover it all is yours truly on the latest episode (#146) of the podcast. On deck:

(2:28) Are you ready? Baseball is about to begin as the long drought is coming to an end. I have a few thoughts about sports making its return and it may surprise you.

(13:23) Some MLB storylines of the past week (SF’s Posey opts-out, ATL Freeman COVID scare, Puig signs, then becomes a free agent again. Where will the Blue Jays play their home games?) Which leads into my pseudo MLB preview as I breakdown each division in this ultimate crap shoot of a season. I’ll have a World Series prediction (it may not thrill you) and dissect what my beloved NY Mets will do in this truncated baseball year.

(36:39) The NFL players have voiced their feelings about wanting to play in light of the pandemic, but where are the rules and regulations when it comes to health, safety and social distancing protocols with training camps opening next week. Where have the bigwigs of the ‘Shield’ been hiding? You’ll get my thoughts on that, plus some major extensions handed out to key players in the league, including Browns DE, Myles Garrett. Ahem, you know I have a comment or two about that!

(46:26) The NBA season will pick up in eleven days. I’ll discuss Russell Westbrook’s health, Zion Williamson’s departure from the bubble and the impact of his return and other stories from Orlando, Fl.

(51:00) The NHL will commence their postseason the day after the NBA returns. It’s all systems go, but I touch on the recent developments of the arena in Edmonton which sustained water damage. Will it be ready by the end of next week? Also, the status of Sidney Crosby as he has an undisclosed health issue he’s dealing with.

Aspiring Broadcaster Jai (From Baltimore) Shields On His Career Path, His Rapport With Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo, Biggest Influence & Much More

Another mid week podcast means another special guest.

Joining me on Episode 145 is an aspiring broadcaster who is already making his mark by being a contributor to one of the nations top sports talk shows. Jai Shields (a.k.a. Jai from Baltimore) is a frequent caller to Mad Dog Unleashed, hosted by legendary host Christopher ‘Mad Dog’ Russo. Now, you’ll get to hear what this young man is all about as he embarks on his quest to become a play-by-play announcer. Mind you, he just turned 18 years old. That’s not a typo! Jai and I discuss his development as a sports fan, his passion for sports, his biggest influences, his ‘relationship’ with Mad Dog Russo and we even tackle how he carries himself in light of racial unrest, police brutality and social injustices throughout our country. This was a great exchange with a bright young mind with lots of potential and a ‘sky’s the limit’ future.

Are We Closer Or Further From Sports? MLB 2020 Season Legit? NFL At Odds On Return? Big 10 & PAC-12 Impact On FBS, Early NBA Bubble Report, NHL CBA Update, MMA's Usman Retains Title

If you love the summer heat, then you’ll get a kick out of me delivering some sports heat in your earbuds as Episode 144 is chock full of nuggets. On deck:

(2:28) Are we closer or further from sports returning in the climate of COVID-19? My commentary on that, as well as…

(9:04) Thoughts as the MLB season commences in ten days, how the Mets are shaping up, will this years World Series champion count as legitimate? Also, Aroldis Chapman’s coronavirus case and what it does to the Yankee bullpen? The Braves won’t change their name, but the Tomahawk Chop?

(25:08) The Redskins will officially change their moniker. What should they re-name themselves? Are the owners and players at odds over some terms on the return of another season? There are health issues abound with two players making some strong comments about the climate the country is currently in. What does this mean as training camp is just a few weeks away? I’ll get into Patrick Mahomes’s record breaking deal? Are the Chiefs going to be hamstrung by this deal? And the player jersey swap ban is as comical as it gets.

(33:48) The Big 10 & PAC-12 are only playing conference games in the fall. How does this affect college football on a whole? Will the other major conferences follow suit?

(37:56) Early concerns and stories from the NBA bubble down in Orlando, including a major injury to a contending team out West. And what to make of the players using slogans on the back of their jerseys? My complete take on that.

(43:35) The NHL have renewed their CBA and the first player opt-out as they’re just a few weeks from resuming their quest for the Cup.

(49:02) An MMA recap of Fight Island on Saturday night. Why Kamaru Usman’s victory wasn’t as easy as many thought it would be?

(53:05) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.
