Navigating our way through a lackluster sports month as we inch closer to September. I’m glad you stopped by so I can fill you in on all of the latest and greatest. On deck:

(2:45) A friendly reminder to check the previous podcast with special guest, Keith McPherson of WFAN joins me to share his broadcasting journey which is inspiring and fascinating, to say the least.

(4:54) With the Olympics now concluded and back to a somewhat barren wasteland in the sports universe, thank goodness for baseball because that’s the constant as we continue to trudge through August. As the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres create some separation in the NL Wild Card race over the past week, what does this mean for the New York Mets? They were sleepless and pretty much scoreless in Seattle over the weekend as they finished up a 4-6 road trip. They’re a half game behind the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card spot in the NL. Although being in the thick of it, the next 19 games, could determine whether or not, they’ll be within striking distance come September. I’ll go through what the AL Wild Card race looks like at this moment. And the disparity of the division races in the AL compared to the NL.

(30:26) The 2024 Olympics officially have come and gone. I can’t say that I’ll have a happy recap, since I wasn’t invested in any of the action in Paris. I will mention the hullabaloo over the lack of playing time for Jayson Tatum as the Men’s Team won the gold in basketball. The Jordan Chiles bronze medal scoring controversy, Noah Lyles coming up sick during his events on the track and a couple of other things to discuss as we say ‘au revoir’ to the Summer Games.

(36:45) NFL preseason is underway. What are some of the takeaways from the past weekend? Is it Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels first taste of NFL play? The new kickoff rule? Jerry Jones vs. CeeDee Lamb? The release of JuJu Smith Schuster from New England. And Tashaun Gipson has found a home in Jacksonville, while having to serve a suspension for violating the league’s PED policy.

(42:44) Jim Harbaugh is going back to Michigan! This isn’t clickbait. This is a fact. He’s going back to Ann Arbor for the home opener on August 31st as an honorary captain to celebrate their national title of last year. Is this a middle finger to the NCAA?

(45:53) Sadly, I wrap up the podcast with the news of Hall of Fame golfer, Juan ‘Chi Chi’ Rodriguez dying over the weekend at the age of 88. I’ll briefly get into his swashbuckling attitude on the course and how much he enjoyed the game when he played decades ago.

Mets Shock With Subway Series Sweep! Huge Series On Deck. NFL Camp Holdouts & 18 Game Season On The Come? TNT In War With NBA? Pressure On US Men’s B-Ball Team As Olympics Begin?

Wrapping up another week as I have one last podcast in the Sunshine State, recapping, reviewing and previewing all that’s happening in the sports world. On deck:

(2:48) As I conclude my tour of Florida, my remote takes me inside (due to construction and a Metrorail train passing by every few minutes) on another hot, sunny summer day in Miami. The acoustics weren’t great in the room that I was recording, so my apologies to those listening if there were any echoes or issues in regards to the latest edition of the podcast.

(4:19) A promo for OLIPOP soda. Please see the offer above.

(5:56) Sports is starting to pick up a little bit as August is on the horizon, but baseball is still front and center here in late July. I cannot believe what the New York Mets did to their crosstown rival, New York Yankees over the past couple of days. They won a close one on Tuesday and last night took the Bombers to the back of the woodshed as they completed a season series sweep in dominating fashion. Now, both teams have to gear up for even bigger series this weekend with division rivals as the Mets play four at home vs. Atlanta. While the Yankees go up to Boston to play the Red Sox for three. How will they fare as both NY teams are either being chased or chasing in the Wild Card standings? I’ll go through the struggles of the Orioles in Miami. The reeling Mariners. The oncoming Rangers in the AL West. There are some intriguing series to keep an eye on (Dodgers-Astros, Guardians-Phillies, Pirates-D’backs) as we’re approaching the final weekend of the month.

(25:29) NFL Training Camps are open for business. You have quite a few  key players holding out (i.e. Trent Williams, Hasan Reddick and Jordan Love) the latter, the most interesting because how much will he get with only one full season under his belt? There were two more retirement announcements (Raiders WR Michael Gallup. Eagles LB Brandon Graham at the end of the year) And the greed of the NFL crops up as there have been high level talks of increasing the season to 18 games in the future. You know how I feel about this. I’ll get into all of it as football is back in our consciousness.

(35:01) The NBA has officially announced their new media deal with ESPN/ABC, NBC & Amazon Prime for the next eleven years worth $76 billion dollars. TNT feels snubbed based on what they said that they’ve countered Amazon’s offer and should still broadcast games after next season. Is this the end for TNT? Can they still negotiate considering this already a done deal. Also, the WNBA signed a new deal as well (11/$2.2 billion, could go up to 3 billion) Is it time for yours truly to start taking notice on a league that has received plenty of attention over the past couple of years? Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau signs a three year extension. And Andrew Nembhard of the Pacers cashed in on a good playoff run with a three year/$59 million dollar deal.

(42:26) A high profile signing in Edmonton for the front office as former Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman will take his talents to Northern Alberta, but this comes after a two year suspension from the NHL for his involvement in the alleged sexual harassment case back in 2010. Was this a good move by the Western Conference Champions?

(45:36) With the Olympics beginning tomorrow night, I’ll preview as much as I could when it comes to what’ll take place in Paris over the next two and a half weeks. One big question going into the Games, how much pressure with the USA Men’s Basketball Team face as they’re the favorites to come home with the Gold Medal?

Phillies Flying. Yankees MUST Win? Rangers Last Stand As MLB Heads Into Break. NBA’s Record Media Deal/USA Men’s Team Starting 5? WHAT? Not Cool Novak Shouts At Fans! US Soccer Coach Canned

I’m honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda?  Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase.

Summer continues to sizzle in these parts, which may not be said for the latest in sports, but have no fear, I’m packing some heat with analysis and opinions with whatever’s going on as the podcast is available for consumption. On deck:

(2:58) Just a little housekeeping as I share a reminder to support my brand partnership with OLIPOP Soda, to save 15% using the code JAYREELZ upon checkout at www.drinkolipop.com They have plenty of great flavors that will quench your thirst in this summer heat.I would truly appreciate it if you can stop by and order a 12 pack or two.

(4:25) The Philadelphia Phillies are showing why they’re the best team in the National League as they’ve taken the first two of their three game series against the LA Dodgers. Will they sweep? I think the Yankees are facing a MUST WIN in July as they could secure their first series win in a month down in Tampa today, before heading to Baltimore for.an AL East showdown with the Orioles. I’ll take a look at the rest of the MLB landscape and big series to look for, as we’re just a weekend of games away from the All-Star Break.

(29:24) A new media rights deal is on the horizon with the NBA. It’s a record eleven year, $76 BILLION dollar deal. What does this mean for the networks/streaming platforms involved? What about players salaries? You will be floored by what you’ll hear, but this is the reality of what the Association will look like down the road. The USA Men’s Basketball team has been in the news recently. Should I or we be wrapped up in who’s going to start in their first game with the Olympics set to open two weeks from tomorrow? And with Kawhi Leonard departing from the team, am I disappointed that they didn’t select Jaylen Brown to take his place?

(42:33) Novak Djokovic has stirred up the fans at Wimbledon the other day, feeling disrespected by the fans in his match against Holger Rune. Was he right for calling them out on the court? Otherwise, it’s been a quiet week leading into the weekend where champions will be crowned on Saturday & Sunday. I’ll preview what lies ahead on the men’s and women’s side, including Daniil Medvedev enormous match vs. Carlos Alcaraz.

(50:54)I have to unpack how the Steelers signing of CB Cameron Sutton, has impacted their secondary, because of his eight game suspension that was handed down earlier this week. I’m sure they knew that this was coming down the pike. Is anyone interested in the offseason Hard Knocks with the NY Giants. What’s next? Vacationing with the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs?

(55:07) I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the firing of USMNT coach, Gregg Berhalter, who couldn’t get out of their group with losses to Uruguay and Panama. What if the US is unable to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, where they are the host nation for this event?

NFL Week 2 Storylines (Officiating, Bold Two Pt. Conversions) Big Ben Done for '19, Mets On Life Support AGAIN, Pete Alonso's Ascent, MLB Wild Card Update, US Men's Basketball Disappointment

From last weeks' angry podcast to a somber one this week on Episode 91. On deck is the following:

Another wild and wacky NFL as Week 2 delivers lots of juicy storylines, including: The officiating throughout the league (another bad call for the Saints, Broncos hit with penalties in loss to the Bears) Losses at QB in New Orleans and Pittsburgh. Bold two point conversions. Ben Roethlisberger done for the season. How will his backup, Mason Rudolph, fare in getting a ton of the playing time? And much more as I go around the league.

The Mets playoff hopes are hanging by a thread with 13 games to go as they trail by four games in the NL Wild Card race. Can they pull off a miracle and make it to October? I'll explain why Pete Alonso is the future of this team and what should've been for a former Met who received early accolades, but never panned out to what we thought he'd become. Also, an up to the minute AL/NL Wild Card update and the hunt for baseballs' best record is on the line between the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers.

The US Men's Basketball team took a big hit in the FIBA World Cup as they finished in seventh place for the tournament. Is this cause for concern with the Olympics slated for next summer? I'll get into that, plus my Hero and Zero of the Week.
