The final days of June is upon us. Closing out the month the only way I know how, with nothing but rapid fire, high octane sports talk to get you set for the weekend. On deck:

(3:58) As June is about to conclude, I implore the universe to slow down the hands of time with July on deck and how Memorial Day felt like five minutes ago, considering it was exactly a month ago. So I had to get that off my chest before getting into why you’re here in the first place.

(5:07) The Florida Panthers averted an epic collapse as they hung on to win their first ever Stanley Cup Monday night vs. Edmonton. I’ll break down a game that fell far from the expectations that I, and us fans were hoping for. Also, why the Panthers are having their championship parade on Sunday, six days after they won the Cup? What about the Oilers? Where do they go from here? Do they get back to the Cup next year, similar to their opponent and win the whole thing?

(25:10) It was the first night and round of the NBA Draft last night. There was not a lot of fanfare surrounding any top prospects coming out of college. I’ll review what happened in the opening round and what to expect (Bronny James, anyone?) in today’s second round. The Knicks made a splash trading for Nets forward, Mikal Bridges, to reunite him with his Villanova teammates. Why Knick fans are thinking Bridges is the final piece to their championship puzzle is beyond me? I’ll mention the re-signing of OG Anunoby to a monster contract which is dubious in my eyes as the free agency period is just days away.

(50:30) Break up the New York Mets! They embarrassed their crosstown rival Yankees and have gotten themselves back to .500. Is it time to get excited about this team the rest of the way? What about the Yankees, losers of five of their last six series? Will this bad stretch continue in Toronto this weekend? Don’t look now but the Astros are also at .500. Next up for them? A weekend in New York to face the Mets in an interesting matchup. I’ll peek at any other big series that’ll take place as the month of June is almost over and out.

The Biggest Game In NHL History? A Historic Game 7 Tonight. MLB Has Yanks Reeling. O’s Swept. Astros On The Move & Scherzer’s Return. Will JJ Experiment Work In LA? No NBA Draft Buzz

I’m honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with Olipop soda?  Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, type in SODALOVE for 15% off of your purchase.

As the Northeast and a lot of the nation was under some record heat as summer arrived on Thursday, there won’t be much cooling off, ESPECIALLY when it comes to yours truly. Doing what I love to deliver all of the latest and greatest in the world of sports. On deck:

(4:14) It all boils down to tonight. A Game 7 of epic proportions with history in the making. No matter how you slice it, the Edmonton Oilers-Florida Panthers could be a game to remember. I’ll break down all of the drama, intrigue and suspense leading into tonight’s matchup. What it will mean to the Oilers if they win or lose? And the same for the Panthers?

(27:28) MLB had a very interesting few days as it’ll be soon the only major sport standing until we get to September. Baseball did a great job covering the Tribute to the Negro Leagues game on Rickwood Field Thursday night in Birmingham, AL. The Yankees haven’t fared well against the better opposition in the league as they’ve lost four of their last five series. The Orioles, coming off of winning two out of three vs. the Yanks, get swept in Houston. The first time they’ve been swept in the regular season since 2022. Speaking of the Astros, they’re trying to get back in the thick of the AL West/playoff picture as they’ve won five in a row. Then you have Max Scherzer, returning to the Rangers starting rotation, putting up a solid five inning outing against the Royals as they try to make a run in light of their World Series championship last year. In the NL, the Phillies took two of three vs. Arizona as they met after their NLCS encounter a year ago. Break up the Mets? They’ve won 13 of 19, but will lose their closer Edwin Diaz to suspension because of sticky stuff. Seriously?

(47:42 ) The worst kept secret in the NBA was confirmed as JJ Redick is the next coach of the LA Lakers. With LeBron James’s influence and friendship with JJ, could this turn out to be disastrous? OKC made a shrewd trade by acquiring Alex Caruso from Chicago for Josh Giddey. Plus, the NBA Draft is forthcoming on Wednesday and Thursday this week, taking a page out of the NFL, spreading out the draft over a couple of days. Is this draft deep enough to warrant a two day affair? Please subscribe, leave a rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Audacy, Amazon Music and iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts.

Reds, Giants, Marlins Making Waves In NL. Are The Mets Done? Kristaps To Boston/CP3 To Golden St: The Final Piece? Wemby/Bedard: This Generations Shaq/Lindros? Plus, Caribbean Vacation Vibes

I'm back in the New York and podcast groove as I have the first of two podcasts this week to close out the first half of 2023! What the sports world had to offer over the past seven days? Here's what's on deck:

(3:12) It's officially here, sports fans. I know NBA & NHL free agency is upon us. Even the NHL Draft with a potential generational star about to be selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in a one, Connor Bedard. Wimbledon is next week. Of course, there's baseball. But the time has come, we have reached this part of the sports calendar where we all dread. Welcome to the Sports Dead Zone, Part 2.

(5:41) Since there wasn't a regularly scheduled podcast this past Thursday, the reason being is because I visited the Caribbean over the past five days at Grand Cayman. I'll share what took place and give it a plug for those who are interested or have it on their radar but never actually made accommodations as a wonderful destination to unplug and relax.

(9:33) MLB is front and center as one of the only sports standing on a day to day basis. I'll get into Marcus Stroman's blister that he suffered during the London Series vs. the Cardinals (which I'll also discuss with the Mets & Phillies playing there next year) He is at or near the top of the rumor mill when it comes to the trade deadline. What this injury does to hinder his value? Commissioner Rob Manfred fessed up to not making the best decision to give the 2017 Houston Astros players immunity during the sign stealing scandal during that season. Why is this coming out now? I'll delve into the exciting, upstart Cincinnati Reds coming off of a 12 game winning streak. The Giants had a 10 game winning streak of their own. The Marlins continue to play well as star pitching prospect Eury Perez shines through a 21 inning scoreless streak. Then, you have the Mets after another rough week (losing 4 of 6 to the World Series finalists, Houston & Philadelphia) and how they found another brutal way to lose a game like they did to the Phillies yesterday. Tampa Bay is on a pace to win 108 games this year, but there have been a couple of hiccups this past week. (Wander Franco benched without All-Star production. Shane McClanahan leaves start with bad back) Aaron Judge's toe and return back in the lineup is uncertain. I'll have that and much more as I take a trip throughout the major leagues.

(32:26) The Association has been wheeling and dealing over the past week. Of course, I'll get into my thoughts on Victor Wembanyama, the #1 pick by the San Antonio Spurs and piggyback mildly on what I said during last weeks' podcast. The Celtics & Warriors made moves to secure potential final pieces to their championship puzzles. Kristaps Porzingis goes to Boston in a three way trade with Washington & Memphis. What are the keys for KP to take his game to the next level? Thoughts on Marcus Smart going to the Grizzlies in this deal as his nine year tenure in Boston concludes. As for Golden State? Chris Paul (aka CP3) goes from the Wizards to the Bay Area where Jordan Poole comes back East. Is Draymond Green's return forthcoming due to this move? I'll also discuss how the NBA Draft played out, with which top players are headed to after Wembanyama's selection by San Antonio.

(48:46) The NHL will have their draft with Round 1 Wednesday night, followed by Round 2 on Thursday. Connor Bedard is the one guy that everyone has their eyes on as the next big thing in the sport of hockey. The Blackhawks have that selection awaiting them two nights from now. How the parallels between he and the Spurs first pick in the NBA draft this year are similar to another big duo many moons ago (Shaquille O'Neal & Eric Lindros in 1992) who came in with tons of hoopla and hype, similar to these guys coming out this year.

(55:51) I'll wrap up with some NFL news regarding Tyreek Hill and his recent allegations regarding assault at a Miami Beach marina. And the untimely death of one time Steelers LB, Clark Haggans, who was part of a big play in Super Bowl XL which changed the complexion of not only the game, but possibly the outcome of the Seahawks chances to win in Detroit that year.

Unknown Wyndham Clark Outlasts Rory, Rickie For First Major (US Open) Title. A Topsy Turvy National League Weekend In MLB. Wembanyama Hype? Suns Beal Deal: Instant Champs? Ja's Suspension. Too Much?

On this Juneteenth holiday, there is some sports chatter to get to, but a respite upcoming for your favorite little podcast host as I get into all that's happening. On deck:

(2:57) To begin, I bring up the fact that today is a holiday that must be mentioned as we honor June 19th. Otherwise, known as Juneteenth.

(3:35) A brief programming note as there will NOT be a Thursday podcast this week. I'll be off to the Caribbean on a four day getaway to relax and recharge from midweek through the weekend.

(4:55) The third major golf tournament of the year (US Open) took place at the LA Country Club where unknown Wyndham Clark made himself a household name, winning his first ever major tournament. But it was the close calls for two guys who haven't won a major in quite some time or never won one at all (i.e. Rory McIlroy & Rickie Fowler) that was the underlying story from the weekend. Do those two have any momentum going into The Open next month for another shot at capturing that elusive major championship?

(19:17) The National League was put in a blender over the weekend as some surprising teams have taken a big leap and become relevant as we approach the month of July. The Marlins are 10 games over .500 for the first time since 2011. The Phillies have gotten themselves in order as they're in the middle of a six game win streak. The Brewers took care of the Pirates as they swept Pittsburgh at home and leapfrogged them in the NL Central. Is this the end of the Pirates good play as they're in a tailspin? Now the Cincinnati Reds are making a charge, winners of eight straight, breathing down the necks of the front running Brewers in the division. Out West, the Giants embarrassed the Dodgers sweeping them out of LA the past three days as they zoomed past them into second place. Even the Angels have overtaken the Astros in the AL West. Will these teams continue to stay hot and make some waves for an early pennant chase pursuit? Then you have the underachieving Mets as they're heading nowhere fast. This could be a telling week as they face the Astros and Phillies on the road this week. Quite a bit has transpired here as more teams have put themselves in the early playoff mix, which could lead to an intriguing summer.

(37:44) The NBA Draft is this coming Thursday. All of the talk and attention will be directed toward the consensus #1 pick, Victor Wembanyama. Is it too early to buy into all the hype surrounding him? The Suns look to build off of a disappointing ending to their season, in agreement to trade for Wizards guard, Bradley Beal. Why I'm probably in the minority as to not being in favor of this deal? There's the 25 game suspension handed down to Grizzlies guard, Ja Morant. Was it too harsh? Too light? Just right? Lastly, Michael Jordan sold his majority stake of the Charlotte Hornets to a couple of men who had a minority stake in the organization. Although MJ will have a minority stake himself, why he still comes out winning after 13 lackluster and mostly non winning seasons in the Buzz City?

Avalanche Wins Cup! A Dynasty On Deck? NBA Draft: Magic/Pistons Upside. Knicks Deafening Silence. Astros Measuring Stick vs. NY/Judge's Big Payday! Wimbledon Preview. Ready For NFL Training Camp?

Another sports season ends, but the sports world still has quite a bit to discuss as I'll get into the latest and greatest of what's happening. On deck:

(4:04) The Sports Dead Zone Pt. 2 is upon us. Now that the fall and winter sports have concluded, I'll zero in on what the next couple of months will look like in the sports landscape as we get you through the summer to the football season in early September.

(7:14) The Colorado Avalanche has exorcised some playoff demons by winning the Stanley Cup Finals dethroning the two time defending champion, Tampa Bay Lightning. With their core of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar, do the Avalanche have what it takes to build a championship dynasty over the next few years? What about the Lightning? Can they get back to the Cup at this time next year? I'll answer those questions and give a review on the Stanley Cup Playoffs on a whole as we say goodbye to hockey until the fall.

(21:35) The NBA Draft wasn't much to write home about. Although I like what both Orlando did (selecting Paolo Banchero and what direction they're heading with a group of good young players) and Detroit (picking Jaden Ivey and trading for Jalen Duren in the first round). My biggest concern, or in this case GRIPE, is what the Knicks aren't doing and it falls at the feet of their front office! This is a commentary that you won't want to miss as I dissect the silence and ineptitude of team president, Leon Rose and VP, William Wesley.

(39:16) The Houston Astros have an interesting stretch to where they're playing both the Mets and Yankees over the course of ten days. After six games, with three more to go this week, how did they stock up to the best in both the National and American League? I'll get into the heroics of Aaron Judge this season and what his potential free agent contract could look like for the Yankees? The return of Freddie Freeman to Atlanta, the injury suffered by Bryce Harper who is out indefinitely with a broken thumb. The Guardians lose grip of the AL Central. The Red Sox rise in the AL and much more as baseball will be front and center as we get deeper into the summer.

(51:40) Wimbledon kicks off the third Grand Slam of the calender this year today. I'll preview both the men's and women's side. Will we see another Novak Djokovic-Rafael Nadal matchup for the title? What can we expect from Serena Williams as we'll see her on the court at a major tournament for the first time in quite a while?

(56:03) NFL Training Camps are less than a month away. Is yours truly ready for some football? I'll get into that and another Manning (i.e. Peyton & Eli's nephew, Arch) makes his announcement as to what university he'll suit up for in the fall of 2023.

(59:47) My Hero and Zero of the Week is on hiatus. I'll explain.

Avalanche's Quest For Cup! Are The Lightning Finished? NBA Draft: Top 4 & Nothing More? Kyrie's Contract Saga. Astros Litmus Test vs. NY. Koepka's Leap To LIV. Watson's Settlements. What's Next?

Summer is officially in full effect and so is the mid-week podcast as I share my thoughts, opinions and analysis on all that's happening in the world of sports. On deck:

(3:28) It's coming, people. Sadly, The Sports Dead Zone Pt. 2 is on the horizon. I'll share an early thought on that.

(4:47) We may have a Stanley Cup Champion crowned as early as tomorrow night. The Colorado Avalanche won a gutty Game 4 after being blitzed by the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3. Now they head back home to Denver to see if they can hoist the Cup for the first time in 21 years. Will they seal the deal? Or does the Lightning have enough thunder to extend the series past Friday night. There were a couple of new head coaching hires in Dallas and Florida that I'll discuss as well.

(15:42) The NBA season may be through, but the offseason has just begun. The Draft will take place this evening as I go through the top four picks (and not much after that) as I explain in great detail. Also, the latest in the Kyrie Irving saga as he and the organization are at an impasse when it comes to a contract extension. Where does he go? Does he stay put in Brooklyn? Are the Knicks a possibility?

(30:38) This is a big week for the Houston Astros as they play a stretch of nine straight games against the New York teams. They've already beaten the Mets in Houston over the first two games. Now a big four game series at Yankee Stadium looms vs. their longtime playoff rivals which will be, I think, a true litmus test for a team that doesn't have much to prove, but to see if they can hang with the best team in the sport. They'll close out this stretch with two games at Citi Field vs. the Mets, before going home to play one game against the Yanks. The Cardinals are in the middle of a big series vs. the Brewers as they currently hold a one game lead in the NL Central. Give it up to the Guardians as they're in first place in the AL Central as they have an important series this weekend when they face the Twins in Minnesota in a battle for the division lead.

(37:57) Brooks Koepka is the latest golfer to make his way over to the LIV Golf League. Will other players on the Tour follow suit? What will the PGA do if this exodus continues?

(42:49) Rob Gronkowski goes off into retirement again! The latest news regarding Deshaun Watson. What is the NFL waiting for to hand down a suspension to the embattled QB?

NFC 'Least', AFC/NFC Log Jam, WK 11 Winners & Losers. Is Hoosier Football For Real? Dabo's 'Excuse' For FSU, Hayward's Move To Charlotte, NHLPA 'Blindsided', MLBPA's Long, Cold Winter Ahead

Get ready to feast on a smorgasbord of sports talk as I have lots cooking, ready to feed the masses as Episode 165 has all of the trimmings for the holiday week. On deck:

(2:47) The NFC ‘Least’, a log jam at the middle of the AFC and atop of the NFC are the themes that kick off Week 11 with winners and losers. Taysom Hill’s performance ahead of Jameis Winston, an umimpressive 7-3 Cleveland Browns team and will the Jets win before the Steelers lose and vice versa?

(34:27) Indiana was up for the challenge, but they’re not in the class of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Will they be heard from again this year? What about their future? Cincinnati wins against UCF to keep them in the playoff hunt. Dabo Swinney had something to say about Florida State postponing their matchup over the weekend. Was he out of bounds for calling them out? I have a comment that may surprise you (especially if you’re a regular listener to the podcast)

(46:45) The NBA had an eventful week with the Draft (maybe, not that eventful) and free agency (very eventful) as I dissect are the Suns for real now that they’ve traded for Chris Paul? The unfortunate injury to Klay Thompson. The plethora of free agent signings, including, Gordon Hayward to Charlotte. What does that mean for the Celtics moving forward? What is Anthony Davis waiting for to re-sign with the Lakers? And the Raptors will now be ‘We The South’ as they’ll play their home games in Tampa?

(1:04:28) The NHLPA were ‘blindsided’ by the owners as they try to change their proposal on the CBA back in July? Who’s to blame?

(1:08:45) It’s looking like a long, cold, hard winter for MLB free agents as they look to get paid before the start of next year. I’ll explain why owners aren’t just worried about the coronavirus impacting their business? There’s another factor looming that could make this an offseason to remember…or forget!

The NBA Finals just ended, but the offseason is already proving that it's going to be wild and crazy as Episode 76 will provide the following:

The Anthony Davis trade to the Lakers. Who is the winner and loser of this deal?

Should the Knicks or Nets pursue Kevin Durant? What will the Knicks do on draft night?  Plus, the aftermath of Klay Thompson's injury and the future of the Warriors.

I'll recap the Blues historic Stanley Cup run. Does home ice/court/field matter in sports? The NHL Draft is Friday. Why the Devils and Rangers will be forever linked with who they select come Friday night?

The Yankees trade for another right-handed slugger. Why I disagree with the move? And why wasn't a starting pitcher involved instead?

The Mets bullpen continues to be inflammable. The latest debacle of relief futility, plus, their upcoming season defining road trip to Atlanta, Chicago (Cubs) and Philadelphia.

A recap of Gary Woodland's US Open victory over Brooks Koepka.

Kicking off another week in grand style as I deliver the latest of what's going on in the world of sports. Met fans! Hang on to your hats yet again! Just when you think it can't get any worse. Losers of six in a row, 13 of 14 at HOME and unable to replace starting pitcher Jason Vargas at the last minute, the New York Mets continue to find ways to go further south as a team AND an organization! This 'REELZ Rant is solely on the shoulders of GM, Sandy Alderson and Principal Owner, Jeff Wilpon. I discuss poor transactions, accountability of the franchise and predict how Sandy Alderson, if and when, will leave/be dismissed by the team. I'll also touch on the Yankees without Gary Sanchez in the lineup for the forseeable future. Plus, an early look at the NBA off-season, including the UNCALLED for booing of NY Knicks #1 pick, Kevin Knox. Also, where will NY Islanders cornerstone, John Tavares go as the NHL free agent process begins in less than a week. All of that, plus a little more, on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. Sports Smorgasbord: NBA Draft, Mets/Yankees, World Cup, US Open Recap

Back on the scene to deliver all that's going on in the world of sports on this weeks' episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The NBA season may be over, but the off-season is just getting started. The Draft is three days away, with free agency ten days after that. I'll share my thoughts on what the Knicks & Nets may do, where LeBron James may end up, as well as, Kawhi Leonard looking to be traded to a new team. (LA, anyone?) There's not much to report in the Bronx as the Yankees continue to roll, but there's concern with the Bombers (mainly the Red Sox and adding another starting pitcher). You'll get my take on that, and which Mets may not be with the team (although it's still early, but who's kidding who) come the trade deadline next month. Plus, a recap of the US Open, played right here in Long Island at Shinnecock Hills. And why I have NO interest in the World Cup? Get your popcorn ready for another fast paced, action packed, sports talk party here on the latest edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 16)
