Getting into a groove as we approach the middle of January, catching up and presenting to you all of what’s going on in the sports world as the latest podcast comes your way. On deck:

(6:27) I have to start off by railing against the NFL Wild Card Weekend being underwhelming and rather lame honestly. It was salvaged in the nightcap down in Tampa as rookie QB Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to their franchise’s first playoff victory in 19 years, beating the Buccaneers 23-20. Did this cement the organization’s odor of the regime of Daniel Snyder years ago? I’ll go through the rest of the schedule where the Texans, Eagles, Ravens and Bills coasted to victory. I’ll get on both Justin Herbert and Jordan Love as far as their performances this weekend. No surprise as Mike Vrabel is your new coach of the New England Patriots. The nightmare continues in Cleveland as Deshaun Watson re-injures his Achilles and is likely done for 2025. Will they pivot and draft a QB, knowing that they still have to fork over $94 million to Watson?

(42:10) The National Championship is set for college football as Penn State and Texas will have long winters, springs and into summer after suffering brutal defeats at the hands of Notre Dame and Ohio State, respectively. I’ll dissect both games, see what went wrong for the Nittany Lions and Longhorns and briefly look ahead to the title game next Monday night. There was some sad news as former Colorado Buffalo coach, Bill McCartney died at the age of 84.

(52:48) Not much is happening in the Association as I’ll touch on the Cavaliers getting their 12 game winning streak snapped. Zion Williamson’s tardiness leads to a suspension. Will he ever grow up? And a historic achievement by Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook, recording triple doubles in the same game for the second time this year. I will check to see what else is going on as teams are approaching the midway point of the season.

(59:59) Same for the NHL as I’ll keep an eye on Alex Ovechkin’s pursuit on Wayne Gretzky’s record, the Bruins snap a six game skid in unconventional fashion and keep you abreast of what’s happening on the ice over the past few days.

(1:04:55) Baseball is about a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training. What’s the latest regarding the Mets signing Pete Alonso and reports of a contract in place?

(1:09:00) We already have an upset of a top men’s player down under at the Australian Open as #11 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas has been ousted by 20 year old Alex Michelsen. Besides that, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek has advanced as they’re just getting started in the first Grand Slam of 2025.

Trust In Celtics? Can OKC/T-Wolves Take Next Step? Lakers/Dubs Staying Power Lead NBA Second Half? UConn Loss: Concerns? Rangers Cup Threat? College’s 12 Team Playoff. Mahomes Rule? Ohtani Overload?

Inching closer to the end of another month, but also the beginning of the latest podcast as I dive into all that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(2:53) With the ‘second half’ of the NBA season tipping off tonight, I’ll get into a breakdown of what to expect in both conferences as we march on to mid-April before the start of the playoffs. Are the Boston Celtics to be trusted to finally win an elusive championship? Can the Cleveland Cavaliers be a threat in the East? What about the Milwaukee Bucks? The Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers? How about the defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat? Out west, can the Minnesota Timberwolves or Oklahoma City Thunder represent in an NBA Finals? Will the Denver Nuggets defend their title? How about the LA Clippers getting to their first ever NBA Finals? You can’t forget about the LA Lakers or Golden State Warriors. Do they have staying power if they get into the postseason? So much to answer and I’ll have an in-depth look as to how this’ll play out over the last couple of months.

(26:00) As for college basketball, #1 UCONN suffers a rough road loss at #15 Creighton. Any concerns or worries about the Huskies? Also, #17 Kentucky loses to LSU on a last second shot as the unpredictability of this college season continues to rear its ugly head.

(31:18) On the ice, the New York Rangers are the hottest team in the NHL, winners of eight straight. Is this the year that they finally get to a Stanley Cup Final, considering what’s taken place over the last two seasons? I know the Florida Panthers are nipping at the heels of the Bruins and Rangers in the conference, winners of six straight as they try to get back to a Final. Auston Matthews has been on a goal scoring tear (had two last night in Arizona. Currently 51 on pace for 75). Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals vs. New Jersey the other night as he’s 56 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky all time in the sport’s history. How many will he need to get this season in order to reach him next year? I’ll check on what else is going on in the league as they’re past the two-thirds point of the regular season.

(43:33) College football has their 12 team playoff format mapped out, but now there’s some discussion about expanding it to 14 in 2026? What!?

(48:57) In the late 1980’s, early 90’s, we had the Jordan Rules, where the Detroit Pistons did their best to defend Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. Fast forward thirty some odd years later, Las Vegas Raiders coach, Antonio Pierce, has the self proclaimed, Mahomes Rule after beating them on Christmas Day, their last prior to running the table winning the Super Bowl. Has he found the formula to slow or stop the Chiefs QB? Was this premature of him to say?

(54:12) Spring training is well underway throughout the MLB. Can we please stop with ALL of the attention regarding Shohei Ohtani’s batting practice home run in his first camp as an LA Dodger? Seriously!? Then there were the comments by Angels 3B, Anthony Rendon, stating that baseball isn’t his priority. WHAT!? Is there any concern in Yankee-land over Aaron Judge’s comments regarding his big toe that he injured in Dodger Stadium last June? Saying that he has to manage it over the upcoming season. You had former Royals 1B, Eric Hosmer announce his retirement. And here we go with the Mets. Projected ace, Kodai Senga has to be put on the shelf due to arm fatigue. ARM FATIGUE!? (It has been announced after the recording that he’ll likely be on the IL to start the season) As a diehard fan, you can’t make it up!

The NFL's Disappointing First Half! Week 10 Winners & Losers! Bye-Bye Oklahoma. Michigan Survives. Golden State's Surprise Start. Coach K's Final Lap. Ovechkin's Quest

I'm in a shockingly cranky sports mood to start, but it makes for a compelling podcast as Episode #224 delivers top notch analysis and opinions on all that's happening in the sports landscape. On deck:

(5:27) The NFL is passed the halfway point of the season. To put it nicely, this hasn't been one to write home about. I get into why it's been a disappointing season to date. I'll get into my winners (Chiefs, Patriots) and losers (Ravens, Broncos) of the week, go through another less than exciting week of games, culminated by the dreadful performance of the 16-16 tie between the Lions vs. Steelers, which YOU KNOW, I'll have a thing or two to share about that!

(30:39) The Oklahoma Sooners are the next team that have kissed their playoff chances goodbye, but the talk was about what Baylor did at the end of the game. Was it right for Baylor coach, Dave Aranda to kick a meaningless field goal as time expired? Plus, Michigan pulled out a huge victory at Penn State to keep their playoff hopes alive. I'll have an up to the minute look at the college football playoff landscape.
