The ball has dropped, the champagne has been sipped. 2025 is here. A new year sets off an explosive podcast as I commence another year of sports talk. On deck:

(6:35) Sending well wishes to you and yours for a prosperous, happy and healthy New Year. Which can’t be said if you’re Boise State, Arizona State and Oregon. The three bye teams fail to reach the semifinals in the college football playoff. Boise State played a poor game (their head coach didn’t think so. Seriously?), but give credit to Penn State in thwarting the Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty as they upset the Broncos. You had a classic finish to a not so classic game (I’ll explain) as Texas shows grit and toughness to beat Arizona State in 2 OT’s. As Oregon failed to show up vs. a game Ohio State team as they blew the doors off of the Ducks perfect season in the Rose Bowl. We still have another game (Notre Dame-Georgia) that was postponed last night due to the senseless act on the streets of New Orleans the night before. I’ll rehash all that took place as we inch closer to the final four next Thursday and Friday.

(31:20) We’ve reached the final week of the NFL regular season. I’ll unpack the very little drama that we should expect over the weekend when it comes to playoff possibilities for Miami, Cincinnati & Atlanta. I’ll share my thoughts on why Saquon Barkley should’ve started vs. the Giants in pursuit of the all time single season rushing record. And is this the end of Aaron Rodgers’s NFL career as it could possibly be his last game vs. the Dolphins on Sunday? Will the owner bring him back? Should they just blow it up?

(48:10) The hot topics in the Association over the past few days have been LeBron James turning 40, saying he can play 5-7 more years, but won’t. How long will he play? Is he doing this to cement his Laker legacy? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is your MVP of the league, said T’wolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards. Is it too early to discuss this? Is there truth to this? What kind of year is defending MVP Nikola Jokic having to this point? I’ll see which teams are hot (Cavs, Knicks, Thunder) and peek at an interesting schedule of games over the weekend.

(59:35) On the ice, the NHL had their Winter Classic on New Year’s Eve, which ended up being a dud. St. Louis easily beats Chicago at Wrigley Field in a 6-2 win. Meanwhile, the Rangers continue to spiral out of control. Not only are they in the midst of a four game losing streak, but they’ll miss their goaltender Igor Shesterkin for at least three games with an upper body injury. Could the head coach be on his way out? I’ll also peruse what else is going on in the standings and schedule over the next three days leading into next week.

Summer is in its swan song, with fall making its way into our consciousness as so is the latest podcast, detailing ALL that’s happening in the world of sports. On deck:

(6:50) The podcast is on the cusp of a milestone. The 500th episode is forthcoming next Monday as the countdown has begun towards that achievement.

(7:14) After briefly touching on the Mets chase to secure the final Wild Card spot in the National League, the NFL is in pole position as Week 2 comes to a close. I’ll highlight the shocking outcomes of yesterday’s games (i.e. losses by Detroit, Dallas & San Francisco), which leads to who’s the surprising 2-0 teams (Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Minnesota, to name a few) On the flip side, who have shocked the early part of the schedule with an 0-2 start (Baltimore, Cincinnati, Jacksonville & LA Rams). I’ll recap all that took place throughout the sport and peek into tonight’s matchup between Atlanta vs. Philadelphia.

(44:26) Georgia got out of Dodge with a scratching, clawing, fighting to the bitter 13-12 win at Kentucky. Was this a good thing? Or one to be concerned about? Texas unveiled highly touted prospect, Arch Manning. (If you don’t know, you’ll have to tune in) with QB Quinn Ewers leaving with an oblique injury. He only put up five total TD’s in a cakewalk of a win vs. UTSA. You had LSU depart Columbia with a last minute win at South Carolina. Besides that, there were slim pickings on the collegiate level.

(52:52) MLB is down to the final couple of the weeks of the season. After a rough back two games in Philadelphia for the Mets, can they make it to Atlanta next Tuesday even in the NL wild card chase. I’ll keep you up to date on what’s happening in the AL wild card as well. Also, are the Yankees a shoo in to clinch the AL East? What about the health of Dodgers pitcher, Tyler Glasnow as he may be done for the year with a nagging elbow injury?

(1:10:08) Training camp opens up in the NHL on Thursday. I have a couple of newsworthy items (A key defenseman out for New Jersey. Seattle extends defenseman Adam Larsson. And the untimely death of former tough guy, Stephen Peat.

(1:12:58) Canelo Alvarez retains his super middleweight title by easily beating Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas Saturday night. As for UFC, Merab Dvalishvili handily beats Sean O’Malley in a decisive victory for the bantamweight title.

June is in full bloom and so is the latest podcast as the sports world has the following to offer:

(4:12) Big picture on Stanley Cup Finals run for Edmonton & Florida with storylines (Oilers Connor McDavid’s first Cup. Panthers appear in back to back), with many more leading into Game 1.

(26:26) Same look for NBA Finals matchup between Dallas & Boston as Kyrie Irving’s return to Boston, Luka’s first Finals dance, Kristaps Porzingis’s health and revenge lead a few of the top headlines heading into Game 1 on Thursday night.

(46:34) The New York Yankees are on a roll. Aaron Judge has been crushing it, as well as, Juan Soto. Giancarlo Stanton has performed better this year than last. Ace Gerrit Cole will throw a rehab game tomorrow as he tries to get back in the rotation. But the reality is? How will the Yankees handle Soto’s contract demands and negotiations? What’s in the minor leagues? Also, remember who your manager is! Also, some key injuries in the sport. Darryl Strawberry’s number retirement and a look at the schedule over the early part of the week

(1:04:38) A record setting contract to a non-QB took place earlier this morning as Justin Jefferson re-ups with the Vikings for $110M guaranteed.

(1:07:21) Novak Djokovic wins late in the wee hours on Sunday (3:07am to be exact) Why is this acceptable? Can this be changed? Rearranging the start times to avoid such late conclusions of these matches?

(1:10:52) UFC’s Dustin Poirier falls short of earning the lightweight belt as he loses to Islam Makhachov Saturday night. Is this the beginning of the end for the legendary fighter?

Former two time All American at the University of Minnesota and 11 year NFL veteran (of the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers) safety Tyrone Carter joins me as he shares his deepest thoughts on a new transition of power in our nation, his biggest influence on his path to the NFL, the motivation for choosing the U. of Minn over another Big 10 school, the disappointment of losing the NFC Championship Game as a Viking in his rookie season to the New York Giants, the reason behind what went wrong in Minnesota, playing for the Steelers winning two Super Bowls, the difference between Coach Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin, the ferocity of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry, his viewpoint about the NFL, his health in relation to concussions, what he’s up to today and so much more! The Suffering Of A Tortured Fan Base (Minnesota) With Headstyle. Plus, Thoughts On Syndergaard, Cam & Olympics

Sending out some mid week sports love as you continue to stay safe and social distance yourself as we get through this worldwide pandemic together. Episode 120 is a special one because it highlights a region and fan base that hasn’t seen a championship in almost three decades.

(11:35) Joining me on the podcast is lifelong Minnesota native, Headstyle to share his pain of following his beloved Twins, Timberwolves, Wild (should be North Stars) and especially Vikings. He has some interesting takes on his most brutal loss, why he loved Brett Favre on the Vikings? The frustration over the Timberwolves and how they’re run, and much more.

(1:36) But first I kick off the pod with my thoughts on the right elbow of Mets P Noah Syndergaard, the release of former Panthers QB Cam Newton, and my Zero of the Week from this past Monday’s episode (#119) was short lived as the 2020 Summer Olympics was postponed until 2021.
