Back after a little 4th Of July respite as I deliver the same fire, passion and opinions with all that’s going on in the sports world. On deck:

(4:35) After a minute discussing the 4th of July holiday, baseball is front and center as we head into the All-Star Break after this week. The big story over is the plight of the New York Yankees over the past month. What has gone on with the Bombers and will it continue with huge road series vs. the Rays & Orioles upcoming? It’s a fascinating deep dive on what has taken place with a team that has sights set on getting back to the World Series for the first time in 15 years. I’ll take a look at the rest of the MLB landscape, which has pretty much stayed the same since we last met a week ago today.

(23:17) NBA free agency should cool off after a crazy first week. I’ll go over some of the big signings (Klay Thompson to Dallas & DeMar DeRozan to Sacramento) to date. Steph Curry commented with Klay’s departure that the Warriors are the last dynasty in the NBA. I’ll refute that and give plenty of examples why they weren’t a true dynasty in my eyes. I’ll share my two cents on the Celtics ownership selling their franchise. Why I found it shocking? And what I hope they DON’T DO when it comes to who’ll be the next owner of the team?

(40:59) Same for the NHL as free agency has been fast and furious with the Nashville Predators making some big moves with the signings of Steven Stamkos & Jonathan Marchessault. The Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers have made significant deals to improve their rosters as this period should start to quiet down from here on forward. Do I get crazy about the New York Islanders acquisition of Anthony Duclair? Kudos to the Seattle Kraken for hiring the first woman to be an assistant coach (Jessica Campbell) behind the bench in NHL history.

(48:11) Wimbledon on the men’s side has been chalk for the most part as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, among others, still alive for a Grand Slam title. It’s the women’s side that’s been astonishing. #1 women’s player Iga Swiatek doesn’t make it into Week 2 of the tournament. Why I can’t let this slide as she needs to step up on a grass surface?

(55:38) Don’t look now, but training camps in the NFL open up as early as this week! That’s not a typo. Am I ready for some football with training camp, the Hall of Fame Game, preseason and the curtain raising on September 5th in Kansas City? Sadly, there was a passing with a young player in the sport as Minnesota Vikings fourth round pick, Khyree Jackson and two other college players, perished in a car accident in Maryland over the weekend.

It’s a new day, new week, new month, but the same ol’ fast and furious, action packed sports talk that you’ve come to know and love as the latest podcast is forthcoming. On deck:

(4:04) With July ushered in, it’s time to check in on MLB teams that can be relevant throughout the summer as they make a play for October baseball. I’ll unpack the AL & NL wild card races for the first time. How will the Twins, Royals, Red Sox, Astros and Rays fare throughout the final three months of the regular season? Same for the Padres, Cardinals, Mets, Diamondbacks Giants and Pirates? I’ll preview some upcoming series leading into the 4th of July holiday and yes, I’ll briefly mention Bobby Bonilla Day as baseball fans can laugh at the Mets and serenade today’s BB Day!

(31:55) NBA free agency has arrived. There aren’t many big profile guys on the list, minus Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan. Paul George was arguably the number one guy leading the pack, but he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers to a four year deal. Why the cons outweigh the pros when it comes to the former Clipper? I’ll address what else could transpire during this opening week of business in the Association and a couple of new coaches (JB Bickerstaff in Detroit and Kenny Atkinson in Cleveland), LeBron James opting out of his contract looking for an extension AND the Lakers drafted his son, Bronny. Are we looking at a three ring circus in LA leading up to training camp in late September?

(48:53) The NHL had their draft over the weekend, but there was plenty of wheeling and dealing throughout the rest of the league as the Tampa Bay Lightning made some shrewd moves (sending Mihkail Sergachev to UTAH, Tanner Jeannot to LA, acquiring scorer Jake Guentzel & signing him to a long term deal. There’s been a couple of other signings (Sam Reinhart stays in FLA, Patrick Kane with DET) And what about my beloved Islanders? What are they going to do to as they attempt to keep up with the Joneses in the East?

(56:27) Wimbledon commences at the All England Club today. I’ll preview the men’s side with Novak Djokovic’s swift return from knee surgery. How will he respond? And can Iga Swiatek capture her first title at Wimbledon as the #1 women’s player in the world?

(1:02:45) UFC 303’s main event had Alex Pereira KO Jiri Prochazka with a head kick in the second round of their light heavyweight bout on Saturday night.

Gerald Brown of Sirius XM NBA Radio on NBA Free Agency. Kawhi & The Latest Player Empowerment Angle, OKC Dismantling? MLB Storylines At The Break, NHL Free Agency, Coco's Rise At Wimbledon

Episode 79 delivers all of the latest and greatest in the world of sports. On deck:

Kawhi Leonard chooses LA, but not the Lakers! How the latest player empowerment movement impacts the Association as Paul George tag teams with the NBA Finals MVP? What does OKC do with Russell Westbrook in the aftermath of this deal? (Knick fans: Don't even think about it!)

As MLB hits the break, what we can possibly expect over the course before the trade deadline and the second half of the season. I'll also deep dive on the Mets and Yankees and what lies ahead for both franchises.

On a lesser scale, the NHL free agency period was chock full of signings. The Rangers get their man, while the Islanders are still scrambling for a sniper. I'll get into all of the major free agents and where they've ended up to this point.

Fifteen year old Coco Gauff has been the story at Wimbledon to date. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get past former #1 Simona Halep. as chase for a championship comes to a close. Could this be the next rising star in tennis? What does this mean moving forward?

Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

(59:57) My guest is host of Sirius XM's The Bottom Line Sports Show on NBA Radio, Gerald Brown as we discuss the craziness of the NBA offseason. The impact of what took place in Brooklyn as opposed to the Garden. Why Knick fans shouldn't get wrapped up in what the Nets are doing? Best signing this offseason? Head scratcher? And lots more.

Brooklyn's In The House! Knicks Come Up Short & NBA Free Agency Whirlwind, Yankees London Calling, Mets Sky Falling & More

Kicking off the first day of July with more fireworks than the Fourth as Episode 78 brings plenty of bottle rockets, booms and blasts with the following:

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sign with the Brooklyn Nets. What does this mean for this upcoming season minus KD? The 2020-21 season? Also, I leave a small verbal note to the newly minted Nets fan.

The Knicks fall short of their pursuit of the two big guns. Why that’s not a bad thing? And why the contracts of the recent players they signed benefits for the short and long term? Also, James Dolan’s impact on why the Garden isn’t the ‘Mecca’ like it once was.

The Yankees bopped their way overseas to two large victories over their heated rivals. What’s the next step for this team as it heads into the All-Star Break and the trade deadline 30 days away?

The Mets are crawling into the All-Star Break after another gut-wrenching week. What the Mets have to look forward to, not only this week with the Yankees coming into their building, but for the remainder of the year if they want any relevance this summer?

NHL free agency has begun. Hear some of the trades taking place and what the Islanders need to do to take their team to the next level here during the shopping spree of procuring players.

Plus, some Wimbledon news and my Hero and Zero of the Week.

The World Cup! Hear my take on what changes should be made to the game in order to improve the sport AND gain more popularity in the U.S., but more importantly, yours truly. I'll recap the weeks that was for the Yankees and Mets. Will trade talk between the teams percolate, in light of their Subway Series matchup right after the All-Star Break? What the Met front office should do when it comes to selling their players? (i.e. Asdrubal Cabrera and Jeurys Familia, in particular) and why the All-Star Game has lost its' luster? I'll take a look at the latest on the NBA free agent landscape. Why DeMarcus Cousins going to Golden State isn't a big deal, despite what everyone else thinks? And not just where Carmelo Anthony may go, but where he should go for this upcoming season? I also add a final word on, of all things, your health! You got plenty of sports stuff to chew on, and then some, on this weeks' edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 19)
